Olympus Master & Adbobe Upgrade dates/paths

I've had some dissapoinintg results from my E-30 (see http://e-group.uk.net/forum/showthread.php?t=7389 if interested )and the root cause seems in the main to be some bad choices I made in settings whilst the camera was new to me

Trouble was retaking the pictures means another week in the bay of Naples and whilst that sounds great the wife/budget is not going to allow

The second option is to reprocess the raw files (thank goodness I shot Raw+JPG) and I've been doing so in Oly Master and LR2.5

I'm not happy with Oly Masters renditions of the files and the control of some aspects of the process seems clunky (e.g. no superfine export to jpg) so I tried LR 2.5 and despite my usual dislike/distrust of anything labelled Adobe I seem to be getting somwhere I like

Trouble is there's a Beta of LR 3 out already and I know Adobe are typically awful in upgrade pricing and back supporing new features (e.g. bridge in CS3 simply says what the *** is an E-30), and no I don't want to convert to DNG using ACR and add even more steps to my work

So I'm tempted to wait before buying as I have 30 days to reprocess the files from the 2.5 download which will take me though Xmas so I have time to do it.

So I'm asking people who are more familiar with Adobe what the fact there is a Beta means in terms of expected due date of 3 or what the price differential is really likely to be

Alternately any info/ideas on an upgrade to Oly Master to stop me having to join the dark side.

Regards
Andy

Andy,
Most commentators who profess to know something about the internal workings of Adobe (of which I'm not one) seem to think that the Beta timescale is approx 6 months - leading to an LR3.0 release date of ~April 2010.

You should also be aware that the current LR3 beta features may change - and hence compatability with the release version isn't guaranteed.

I tried a LR2.1 evaluation about 12 months ago - and rapidly decided it was worth the money. The ability to hold non-destructive edits as small XML sidecar files for your ORFs, and especially the local adjustments, cropping and printing features are a real boon. You will rapidly find that your workflow for the majority of images becomes much simpler than using CS3 etc.

Andy LR2 works perfectly with CS3 and E-30 ORF files as long as you choose "Render With Lightroom"

All this means is that using render with LR applies all the edits you have made in LR and opens it in CS3's editing space.

Waiting for LR3 will make no difference as it will still not be fully compatable with CS3.

I was going to suggest this. The main issues with Studio are that it's slow and the UI is not particularly intuitive, but I do think it is capable of producing excellent results.

I'm a bit confused about the debate concerning LR2 - it is fully compatible with the E-30.

I have to admit that I'd forgotten all about Oly studio - i may well have a play with it

I didn't say that LR2 wasn't compatible I said Bridge in CS3 wasn't without downloading ACR and having more steps in my process

LR2 is doing a fine job. I just don't want to spend money on it and then find I'm stright into an upgrade at high price

Andy
