Hunstman Spiders on handrail.

While walking late in the afternoon back to Elysian Rock Lookout in the Blue Mountains, NSW these Huntsman Spiders were spotted.

This one was on the end of the hand rail being worried by some ants trying to get a piece of it.

But the spider just flicked the ant off.

What is a little more disturbing are the family of Hunstman hiding under the handrail.

Super photos Ross. A lovely spider too. I don't think they are dangerous are they?

I wouldn't call them lovely, but 'large'. I wouldn't want to put my hand on one either on that handrail either. Basically they aren't normally a danger but they still have large fangs so I wouldn't like to feel them penetrate.

Spiders are wonderful creatures! Great pics. Having said that I'm quite glad our spiders are smaller than those .. .

I don't seem to mind scorpions and a couple of years ago went looking for them at Sheerness docks, with an ultraviolet lamp. It was fascinating to see them glowing turquoise in the cracks in the brickwork joints.

Lovely photos of these amazing little creatures.

If any are found in the house, I always trap them under a glass, slide a bit of cardboard under then release them in the garden ... after tormenting swmbo a little, that is.

I'm not sure I care for scorpions though.

Have to admit torturing the ex MIL, with the hamster. She was very scared by it when I took it out of the cage and showed it to her. The peak was when I muttered "Bugger I've dropped it..."
