Starburst Tree

Well, this got an "explore" pick on Flickr (again, for reasons I don't understand, it's not the best pic of the few I posted that day)...

Starburst Tree by Paul Kaye, on Flickr

But it has got me to within a smidgen of 1m views...

Happy new year everyone!

Re: Starburst Tree

It's a nice image but why it's had so many views I don't understand. Do you have to pay Flickr to get those stats Paul?

The stats are part of the "Pro" package, which is about US$50 a year.

Re: Starburst Tree

Ah ok thanks Paul. I'm sure I don't need a pro package but as they are starting to charge anyway then I'll have to look into the options. Thanks.

Re: Starburst Tree

From Jan next year you’re allowed up to but not exceeding 1000 images / videos. Half that number is more than adequate for my needs. So no need for PRO membership (that word again ).

Re: Starburst Tree

I think this shot is popular because it is a darn good example of shooting into the sun to achieve a star burst without unwanted flare. It is also an excellent composition and I think it deserves a wide audience.

Re: Starburst Tree

Has the image been de-fished or did you crop away some of the image Paul?

Not defished, but cropped from the right and then top and bottom to make it 16:9. The original shot had the sun right in the middle (to avoid flare - the 8/1.8 isn't bad, but shooting direct into sun still gives a few blobs).
