Moved from General Photography - 3rd party battery for EM1mkii

Has anyone used a 3rd party battery for the EM1mkii. Im looking at Ex-Pro they have 2 high capacity batteries + charger for 55. The batteries do not show the charge in the camera but do on their own charger. You also get a car charger and they say their chargers are ok for original Olympus batteries.

Can anyone tell me if they are any good

Re: Moved from General Photography - 3rd party battery for EM1mkii

I bought an Xpro as a third battery. Disappointed in its performance I have to say. Nowhere near as good as the originals, and it has to have its own charger!. More to lug around............

Only ever use it if I know I need loads of power, which is not often......

Re: Moved from General Photography - 3rd party battery for EM1mkii

I have had a good Ex-Pro battery ..... but the other two (out of three purchased) were disappointments. They would take them back for replacing 'but I would have to pay the postage', one was only days old when it failed. They do not seem to take much responsibility for their products. Just my experience.

I have since used DSTE batteries (for my previous Sony camera) and they have been much better. I now have two DSTE, complete with charger, for my E-M1 Mk2 and all is ok so far. You only need to use the DSTE charger for both the DSTE and the original batteries so only the one charger to carry at all times (as the Ex-Pro, the Oly charger will not charge DSTE and the percentage doesn't show on the camera display but the green bar does).

Hope that helps

Stick to genuine batteries - I ended up throwing out the cheap ones. But I did buy a cheap charger for the genuine batteries and it works fine.

I got 1 extra BLH-1 (original). Yes it cost a fortune but 2 blocks are enough to last me on my trips. Even for my motorsports, it's been able to last.

Apart from batteries, what I found really useful is a charger that uses an usb connector as power supply, so I can charge on the go anywhere, on the car, with a power pack, etc... very small and compatible with Oly batteries.

Re: Moved from General Photography - 3rd party battery for EM1mkii

Has anybody had any luck with finding 3rd party batteries that show the charge in camera and will charge on the original Oly charger? I need at least 2 spares and I'm looking at 150 at the moment for genuine Oly ones.

Re: Moved from General Photography - 3rd party battery for EM1mkii

I bit the bullet and bought three when I bought the camera... have to say I resented paying 75 a pop but there were no 3rd-party compatible available. As far as I know, there still aren't any fully compatible parts.

Amazon and others have Olympus BLH-1 for just under 70 now, so slightly better than when I bought them.
