Wanted - Kiev Rangefinder Camera

I've decided that a Berning Robot camera would be too expensive to satisfy my whim for a rangefinder film camera, and am starting to consider a Russian Kiev.

There are plenty on Ebay at various prices, but it's possible that someone on this forum might have one tucked away that they would part with.

Re: Wanted - Kiev Rangefinder Camera

I have a Zorki 4K Rangefinder with a Jupiter 50mm f2 lens that appears to be in perfect condition, complete with its leather case. It feels like it was built out of T34 tank spare parts. My wife bought it for me some 16 years ago in an old camera shop in Rome and I doubt will take too kindly about any thoughts of selling.

Re: Wanted - Kiev Rangefinder Camera

I just sold a Zorki 4 and two Jupiter lenses. It was a great camera, but had a tendency to tear film. Just replaced it with an Olympus 35DC which I'm absolutely in love with.

The Kievs look good though. Presumably you would go for a meterless version as they look better (IMO) and meters are unlikely to work now anyway?

One particular Russian camera I hanker after (and come close to buying several times) is the Iskra, a medium format folder based on the Agfa Super Isolette.

If you really wanted a Robot then why are you not considering a Leningrad? The camera not the exposure meter. Leica screw mount rangefinder with clockwork motor drive!

Re: Wanted - Kiev Rangefinder Camera

Is this some kind of penance you feel compelled to suffer, Jim?

I think it's a substitute for flagellation. I find my OM1 is enough of an exercise in photographic purity - Russian rangefinders are definitely a step too far!

Re: Wanted - Kiev Rangefinder Camera

There's no doubt range finders can be tricky things, but well worth the effort. The only penance is the time spent to become reasonably accomplished. There's no hiding place, no P mode, no nonsense - it's just you and a light box. Get one and if funds allow get an M3 or an M6.

Re: Wanted - Kiev Rangefinder Camera

I used a Yashica Minister D rangefinder for a few years in the '70's, just looked at some old photographs, amazed how good they still look. The Minister D had a fixed lens
