Re: 50mm Macro, EX25 and EC14

Hi everyone!

As promised here are some test images taken with the 50mm and various combinations of the adapters.

50mm f2 and EX25:-

and a 100% (ie pixel for pixel) crop:-

and now the 50mm F2 and EC14:-

and again a 100% crop:-

For information the coin is a british 20p, actual size is approximately 22mm in diameter.

More in the next post!

Cheers,

Ralph.

Re: 50mm Macro, EX25 and EC14

And now for the interesting bit:-

50mm f2 then ec14 then ex25 (lens set to max extension and f13):-

and a 100% crop:-

And now with the adapters reversed (50mm then EX25 then EC14):-

and again a 100% crop:-

For maximum magnification the 50mm then EX25 then EC14 is definately much closer than the other way around, but the depth of field in either case seems very small, and there seems to be a bit of softness towards the edges when the 50mm - EC14 - EX25 combination is used.

For everyday use I think I'll stick with the EX25 if I can get close and the EC14 if I can't - both together really doesn't give much more and at a high depth of field loss. The only problem now is a hankering for an EC20 to complete the set!

Just for interest lighting for these shots was done using my Metz AF44 4O flash and an A5 white envelope hanging down in a curved shape as a diffuser (I can't yet run to one of Alf's very expensive milk bottle or pringle tin constructions!)

Cheers,

Ralph.
