Dambuster's 70th anniversary

The BBMF is planning to fly the Lancaster bomber over the Derwent Water reservoir on May 16th. Anyone planning to go along? I will definitely be there and hope to get some good shots. This is something I have been hoping for for a long time. The time has yet to be confirmed, more info here: Lancaster fly over

If it does go ahead I think it will have to be a day off to see this and hopefully get some pictures to show.
As it not to far away .
Lets see what develops

Re: Dambuster's 70th anniversary

I have already booked the day off. Now just hoping for good weather.
On Tuesday the Lancaster flew over Doncaster as there was a 100th birthday party for a WW2 air gunner.
Got a good view as it did a flew in a semi circle around where I work.
Not a lot beats the sound of 4 Merlin engines.

I understand on the Friday it is due to fly from Scampton to Biggin Hill.
Early start it will be busy!

Re: Dambuster's 70th anniversary

To add to the Lancaster/Dambuster theme I attended a photo shoot at East Kirkby the home of Lancaster NX611 "Just Jane". The money from the day is to go towards the aircraft flying again.
A very cold but enjoyable day with the highlight being an evening engine run.
Just a few from the day.

One of my school friend's family own/operate East Kirkby

Probably the biggest part of living well in the sticks I miss is the sound of Merlins overhead

I am hoping it will be the one in Derbyshire, which is the one they trained on.

Derek, that portrait is magnificent but the evening engine run is a really special shot, it would make a great poster. I hope you and any others able to attend get some great shots at the reservoir.

Thanks for your comments, it was a very cold but great day. I was pleased with the shoots considering E-5 low light performance.
I have just put my name down for another evening photo shoot at East Kirkby later in the year.

The link in Steve's (Wreckdiver) OP refers to "Derwent Reservoir" (not Derwent Water).

According to the Ordnance Survey's GB 1:50,000 Gazetteer there are only 2 'Derwent Reservoirs - one in Co Durham, the other in Derbyshire.

Given the that the historic association is with the Derbyshire location I'm sure that this will be where the fly-past is planned to occur.

Re: Dambuster's 70th anniversary

I will be there the day before but maybe not that day. Living not a million miles from BBMF at Conningsby I often see a Lancaster plus it's sidekicks locally.
