Olympus VF3 available

Just noticed the new VF3 viewfinder is in stock at SRS microsystems but at 180 its only 20 cheaper than the VF2, who the hell is going to skimp on 20 for something that unless I'm mistaken isn't as high spec?

I've recently bought an Olympus XZ-1, and I know that the VF-3 will fit, and can be locked on. Do you know if the VF-2 will fit the XZ-1?

Re: Olympus VF3 available

I believe the VF2 also fits the XZ-1 but I might be wrong, I'm in the market for an EVF but I'm a bit unwill to sacrifice 500,000 pixels for 20!

The guide prices are much wider apart than that. The VF-3 is new and won't be as discounted as muuch as the older VF-2.

On paper the VF-2 is the better bet, but the VF-3 does have the hot-shoe lock!

Yes, the XZ-1 has a Mark 1 Accessory Port and will take either VF-2 or VF-3. It will take the SEMA-1 stereo microphone adapter and the macro lights, but not the Bluetooth PenPal device, which requires an Accessory Port 2 (E-PL2 and later).

Yeah I guess prices will fall eventually, I think thats whats making me more likely to go for the VF2, I'd imagine its not that likely to fall much farther in price now, although after reading some comments about the VF2 being easy to knock off the lock sounds like a good idea.

Re: Olympus VF3 available

The only problem I had with the VF-2 was the diopter adjustment being knocked out every time I took it out of my bag. A tiny sliver of sticky tape on the hot shoe kept it firmly secured.

I'll need to have a think, sadly Jessops nor Jacobs in Edinburgh actually stock any of the viewfinders so ideally I need to order online to try one.

Just a thought - have you tried Calumet in Leith? They had the Pen from day one.

Ah might give them a go, especially as they're about 5 minutes walk away!

Re: Olympus VF3 available

Well I've ordered a VF2 from Amazon, due tomorrow, means if I don't like it or don't think it will be useful I can send it back!

Re: Olympus VF3 available

I think you'll be happy: it's bright and shows 100%. I've had no trouble with it falling off, but the hinged part could do with a lock (sometimes it comes loose, which can get irritating if you're trying to frame a shot carefully). It can get flickery in low light, and a little jerky in fast action, but basically it transforms a P&S in to a proper camera.

Re: Olympus VF3 available

I think I'm just feeling a little quily about spending 200! I'd searched for a used one and the cheapest silver one I'd seen was 180, thought I might as well buy new!

Re: Olympus VF3 available

Was just having a quick surf and noticed that SRS have a secondhand VF-2 in black for 150. Not sure if this was of any interest to anyone posting in this thread.
