now, am getting confused

do I get the body with the 14-22mm lens or the 12-50mm lens

Both are good - the 12-50 is more versatile (it's decent macro lens and has power zoom (and manual zoom if you prefer) for video and it is wider and longer in reach). The 14-42 is more compact and looks more natural on a Pen body. Personally, I'd ignore looks and go for the 12-50, but that would be a slightly more expensive route and Pens are not normally sold with 12-50s as kits (the lens was really intended for the E-M5).

You have had lots of advise about lenses so I will not add to it and just say the E-PL5 would be ideal for you and taking pics of your little girl and self portraits with the tilting viewfinder.

I take a lot of pics of my granddaughters using the E-PL5 and E-M5 if you want to see what it is capable of then take a look here, a lot were taken with the E-PL5 or E-PL3 by me.

Funnily enough just this morning I took a self portrait of me and my Daughter using the E-PL5 and 35mm f1.8.

Re: Which mirror-less camera to purchase?

I am an Oly fan from the original E1 onwards but i have bought the Lumix GH3 for video, i liked the feel, layout of it etc. There are some good deals out there go and handle some bodies to put your brief to the test.

Re: Which mirror-less camera to purchase?

I have the EPL5 and the 17mm f2.8, this is plenty fast enough in reasonably lit rooms after dark to take photos of my Grandchildren.

For a faster lens at reasonable price the 45mm f1.8 is a superb lens, but you need a large room to get them in shot. It is fantastic outside in poor light though. I took flashless photos at a family wedding at the evening dance in poor light with this combination and was really pleased with the results.

The EPL5's screen swings to nearly 180 degrees in the up direction, far enough to frame a selfie if that's your thing and in itself is a good camera.

Re: Which mirror-less camera to purchase?

You will up to a point but as the lens isn't too fast the background won't be really soft. The 42mm end will be better as will a longer focal length lens.
