Anyone use the Samyang 14mm f/2.8?

Anyone use the Samyang 14mm f/2.8?

I'm seriously thinking about going retro and putting together a set of 3 manual focus primes, a wide angle, a standard and a telephoto like I used in the 70's.

I already have the Samyang 85mm for my telephoto and am waiting for the Samyang 24mm to start shipping so early adopters can test it for me. If the reviews are good that will be my standard so all I will need is a wide angle which is where the Samyang 14mm comes in.

Off topic a bit, but what do you think of your Samyang 85mm? Strengths and weaknesses?

I've not finished testing yet but my initial impressions are.

Pros.
Sharp and usable wide open.

Cons.
Stiff focusing (although this could free up with more use).
Close focus could be better (although I've got my Tamron 90mm macro so no biggie).

Couple more cons.

Not weather sealed.
Lens hood could be deeper to keep snow/rain off the front element.

As an alternative, anyone tried the Tamron SP 17mm f/3.5 on a 4/3 body.

I've got one somewhere so may try it myself if I can find it. I've also got a 24mm and 28mm OM Zuiko so may try those for my MF standard.

Jens Birch had an interesting way of trying it . He wrote an interesting article on Fourthirdsphoto at the time, but sadly it seems to have gone the way of several things there.

Thanks, I remember seeing that in the past although it looks like he used a different version of the Tamron than the one I've got somewhere.

Re: Anyone use the Samyang 14mm f/2.8?

Thought I'd update this thread. Amazon Canada currently have the Samyang 8mm fisheye on sale for CA$201 (127.74) so I've just ordered one.

After 30+ years as a pro it will be the first time I've owned a fisheye.

Now I've just got to decide between my 24mm and 28mm OM primes for my manual focus standard lens.

Re: Anyone use the Samyang 14mm f/2.8?

Thought I'd resurrect this thread to ask if anyone is using the Samyang 35mm f/1.4? The 24mm is getting very mixed reviews so I'm considering the 35mm as a long standard.
