Durham Cathedral Photographic Evening

From Anne Heywood, Chapter Steward

"Usually there are restrictions on photography in Durham Cathedral. But we appreciate that there are those who would welcome the opportunity to spend a summer's evening testing their skill in capturing the essence of this wonderful building.

Therefore, we are holding a photographic evening from 6.30 to 9.00pm on Wednesday 17 June. The Cathedral will be open only for photography and members of the Durham Photographic Society will be on hand to help and advise. This sacred space is not that easy to capture in images, even with the increasingly sophisticated digital cameras but those with
simple 'point and snap' cameras are also more than welcome.

There will be a charge of 5.00 per camera. Tickets will be available in advance from the Information Desk in the Cathedral or at the door on the night.

Flash photography is not permitted but tripods are welcome as long as no-one trips over them!

This is the first time we have welcomed hobby photographers as a group to the Cathedral. Let's hope for a glorious summer evening when the Cathedral not only looks its best but should be bathed in light seldom seen by the public.

Anne Heywood
Chapter Steward"

Yes, great chance. Nice building and grounds, particularly with low sun.

We were there last year but it was photography verboten as usual

I will go if I can get a pass out, and if the light is good. (I live only fifteen minutes away so I can make a last minute decision).

I see they are charging 5 per camera, not per person. I may just take a MF film camera with two film backs.

I know a lot of people don't like the 'no photography' rule, but at least they don't charge admission at Durham, unlike many other cathedrals.

Re: Durham Cathedral Photographic Evening

I`m thinking of going. Does anyone in the area want to car share, as parking can be a nightmare in Durham?

I live in Prudhoe, so can pick up in Newcastle or en route.

PM if interested.
