Re: Pushing Tri-X
Remarkably fine grain though; in the first image at least.
How did you scan them?

Re: Pushing Tri-X
If you really like film grain you could try processing it in a print developer like Bromophen. I'm not sure that it would work with Tri-X but it does work well with HP5, etc.

A week or three ago the topic of printing came up. I firmly believe the art of photography is incomplete without a print to look at with reflected light. But I'm afraid the digital world we live in has had a big, bad negative influence (as Donald might say). |

Re: Pushing Tri-X
Microphen was my choice of brew back in the day!
![]() I didn't shoot nearly as much Tri-X as I did HP4 and HP5, and even some well out of date (honest!) HP3! FP4 was my usual choice, though. Even some Pan F from time to time. Ian Let's not forget XP1 400 too!

Choice between changing bag and pop-up film changing tent (smaller than the name suggests) has been on my mind, but I think the pop-up wins to overcome sweaty hands in a bag in close proximity. Sadly the pop-up has been out of stock for a few weeks already. I hope to try a variety of film stock and a number of different developers too. |

Re: Pushing Tri-X
Oh, yes, the great smell of eye watering stop bath and fixer. Getting all hot and sweaty trying to put a film onto a damp reel. Forgetting to start the timer when you pour the developer in or check the temperature before/when you start. Plus the other 101 things that can and do go wrong. However, when it all comes together, there's nothing like the satisfaction you feel when you peel the film off the reel and look at the results. Well worth the effort!!
If you pure digital guys don't know what I'm talking about, you don't know what your missing ![]()

Re: Pushing Tri-X
I have two changing bags; an ancient cotton one that I inherited from a photographic uncle, and a much bigger synthetic one that I bought about five years ago.
The cotton bag wins every time. The synthetic bag very quickly gets hot and sweaty even in wintertime. I also worry about static sparks from the synthetic material. Does anyone still make cotton changing bags I wonder?

Good point, better than the ‘plastic’ types.

Yeah, great isn't it. As soon as it's back in stock I'll 'bag' one.

Re: Pushing Tri-X
I do like that the black is black in these .. so many people are afraid of real black and want to "find and see" things in the shadows... I say let them be...
