It looks like a female Chaffinch to me. Nice shot.

A dead Common Loon (Great Northern Diver to UK birders) emerging from the ice on the Lake Huron shoreline during the spring thaw. Winter can be hard on some species, I don't know if it got trapped in the ice or if it left it to late to head south.

The railing contributes to emphasising the bird's diagonal framing.

A ring-necked parakeet on the feeder in my garden. An attractive bird, but they don't half make a horrid shrieking noise...

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

From my first attempts at BIF for around 5 years: over the past 2 late-afternoons at RSPB Fowlmere with the E-M1ii and 300 f4. A lot more practice needed, but it's a revelation and enormously heartening to get at least some in focus!

I've been trying a variety of setups from the 'Reed' hide, working on panning technique rather than trying for anything pretty. Including birds crossing in front of sky, water, trees and reeds (all moderately successful as long as I get CAF lock-on before shooting), and geese coming fast straight at me (hard: I haven't found a formula that works more than occasionally, yet).

The hide is quite a distance from where most of the birds are flying, so these are mostly moderate crops (at least 50%). Tracking a swooping lapwing is something else...

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

Think you have done well.

BIF is quite difficult for me, not the camera, but just keeping the birds in the view finder!

Great shots......................

My mistake is to have zoom to far, at 400mm (MFT) its difficult to keep them in sight. I have tried with more success to reduce the zoom, and crop more.............
