Olympus Report Lower Mirrorless Sales

Olympus just released their latest financial results.

Bit worrying

https://www.43rumors.com/olympus-q1-...d-competition/

The pending Nikon and Canon announcements will not help either. The new stuff being talked about had better be good.

Re: Olympus Report Lower Mirrorless Sales

No surprise there, competition is fierce and people will hold off purchases if they think there may be something new in the pipeline

Re: Olympus Report Lower Mirrorless Sales

I wouldn't be as worried, although I do feel for the E-M5 MK II users wanting to update to a later model. The word out (yes, from Simon) is that no new model of that level is planned. The shifting of manufacturing & merging with medical dept (or at least coming under the same umbrella) would not have helped with the figures.

This is mostly where the ‘converted’ come & yes, we do discuss models etc & can encourage each other in our buying decisions, but I think it is better & more outside marketing that brings in the sales.

Re: Olympus Report Lower Mirrorless Sales

Even with the arrival of the new mirrorless cameras from Canon and Nikon I think there will still be a place for m43 equipment. The question is whether there will be sufficient demand to support two manufacturers and I feel Panasonic are in a stronger position to survive than Olympus. I hope I am wrong as I have a lot of money, for me, invested in my Olympus gear. I have even bought the three year extended warranty for my E-M1 II, so I hope they are still around to honour it.

No, I don't think that would/should be a problem, although I know other companies have folded in the past. Remember Panasonic make their own ordinary lenses but need the Leica branding for the better lenses, whereas Olympus design & produce their own Zuiko lenses, from entry to Pro level (except when using Sigma designs/manufacturing ).

Next year we'll see the E-M1 Mk III, the PEN-F Mk II & the MC20 coming in the first quarter (hopefully if all goes to plan & leaked info) as well as an announcement for a long zoom lens. Shifting production out of China, as well as putting Imaging under (or in with) Medical would not have boosted sales in the process, but hopefully will strengthen the imaging side of the business. Anyhow, I'm no business expert at all, so ........
