Thanks Ian for posting up about the finances. Transparency seems to be way ahead. I noticed earlier on there were 212 guests visiting the site and thought if most of them donated £10, it would make a big difference. Positive thoughts.

We are greatful for the support that Olympus have given us in the past. Do they still recognise the forum as a useful tool to guage opinion of Olympus camera products?

Our original benefactor was Mark Thackara. He has now moved to a different role in Olympus and spends most of his time in Hamburg working on marketing the Pen in Europe. Olympus is very much focused on more trendy social media channels. There have also been many personnel changes in the UK and I am not as connected as I was in the past with Olympus UK. In fact I have closer contacts with other staff at Olympus Europe. So in answer to your question, I don't know.

Re: The reality is that the e-group needs your help

Given Ian's last comment I think that there is something else we can all do

We all know that the membership here has far outgrown the original UK remit

Whenever we are interacting with Olympus we can commend on how valuable this site is to us and how much we consider it one of the best advertisements for Olympus camera systems WORLDWIDE and we would love to find that they can once again support us

Regards
Andy

Re: The reality is that the e-group needs your help

Just catching up with this having been away and pretty busy recently. Happy to provide a donation in support of the forum and agree with the earlier comment on additional support from the buy and sell posts that result in sales. A couple of additional thoughts, could there be some sort of user privileges given to financial supporters of the forum? also maybe Olympus could be persuaded to match the donated funds? and give forum supporters discounts off kit or organise specific experience days?

Is this the same as Amazon Smile? (I ask because I use that to donate to Prostate Cancer UK, which my father has).

I'll be making a (probably modest) donation come payday over the weekend, and trying to involve myself here more too (in the past it's mainly been when I'm looking to buy something!!)

Amazon Smile is, essentially a clone of the Amazon website and purchases there will result in charitable donations from Amazon itself.

The Amazon Associates affiliate scheme doesn't operate on Amazon Smile as far as I know, so if you prefer the beneficiary of your purchase to be a bona-fide charity, please continue to use Amazon Smile - it's a great idea from Amazon

The nice thing is that you can make some purchases through Amazon Smile and some via our links on the main Amazon website so you can spread the benefits you generate.

Thank you again for all the donors; around 15 so far

Some of you have left notes and identified yourselves - I will be emailing you all personally to express my gratitude in due course.

Re: The reality is that the e-group needs your help

One thing I did not mention is that PayPal offers you the option of setting up a regular payment. So you could nominate a smaller amount, repeated monthly. I've just noticed one donor doing exactly that - well done!

That's an amazing and wonderful commitment (and one that many of us could never afford). Very grateful.

Re: The reality is that the e-group needs your help

I view this site as a good substitute for reading AP (ie better than) so it is at least worth cost of buying a magazine every week/month. This site has the advantage of keeping all the articles online (instead of travelling out with the trash) and being more relevant to the type of camera I have.

Ian - what would you view as being a relevant monthly subscription to the site?

We can by all means discuss this but I'm not keen in the idea of a mandatory subscription.

I physical magazine does have much more costs. If all our regular users contributed a pound a month, that would go a long way to making the site self-sustaining, but that's not going to happen.

This whole exercise is stressing my brain (in a good way)
