Any chance of an early heads up about the upcoming changes Ian?
Of course, Phill - glad to oblige

All the initial changes will be technical. Our server is running old software and this limits our ability to update the operating systems to more modern, secure, reliable and efficient versions. The site will become https secure, and both desktop and tablet/mobile display savvy.

These changes will be implemented and tested on Four Thirds User first because far less people currently use the site there so there will be less disruption.

There is some impatience, or do I get a sense of cynicism, in some quarters, maybe quarter? - not you Phil Well I am sorry about that but, the changes will happen and complaining won't make anything happen faster.

A separate development which is specific to the site is to set up a Wordpress-based 'magazine' section and I currently envisage the new photo showcase others have indicated they would like to see to be in this section. The wordpress section is already installed and the Amazon shop will also be situated there.

Inevitably, there will be some trade-offs and the forum itself will lose some functions as well as gain others. I will be able to explain more in due course.

Ian

Re: The reality is that the e-group needs your help

I seldom visit FTU but I have just taken a look and it's significantly different to what I remember so something must have happened! I'm sure it used to look more like this forum.

Re: The reality is that the e-group needs your help

Made a monthly donation. I was wondering about a percentage of stuff I buy and sell on here. Every little helps (or has that already been suggested)

I don’t see a Paypal donation button, on my iPad. I’ll check next time I’m on a proper computer.

Sorry about that! This is a consequence of running a site that is not compatible with small device screens - but which will eventually be fixed thanks to everyone's help

Re: The reality is that the e-group needs your help

Thanks for the continued running of this site - any chance of non-Paypal oriented donation means being sorted in the next few months ? They still owe me £162 ... so I don't use them any more. I don't use Amazon, either, sorry. Tax evasion and promoting Jeremy Clarkson saw me off Amazon.

And I've been over to the 43-user site - looks good. Would there be any merit in combining the two sites into one ? A "takeover" / "merger" ?

Thanks for your support; another member has donated by bank transfer, I will PM you with more information.

Re: The reality is that the e-group needs your help

I've recently come back to the site after a spell away (not at her majesty's pleasure!) and picked up on the funding issue. Not sure how far it has progressed but I have made a donation via PayPal. By the way, pages 15 & 16 of this thread appear to be missing?
Regards
Brian

Re: The reality is that the e-group needs your help

I'm not sure there ever were pages 15 or 16? What suggests there were, Brian?

Thanks,

Ian

Re: The reality is that the e-group needs your help

The page index under the last post says "page 14 of 17" and has entries for pages 15, 16 and Last - all of which bring you back to page 14.
