I give in.

Hi,

So after years of using Canon full frame cameras I am finally giving in and admitting that I prefer the little Olympus I bought a couple of years ago.

Over the last year My OM-D has done about 3000 exposures, my RX10 about 500 and my Expensive Canon 5d Mkii and associated lens kit about 35.

Tells a story really.

So Canon kit will be up for sale to fund better Olympus glass, I think in the end the size and weight of it was too much, always seems like an effort to take it out whereas the OM-D can sit in whatever bag I have without issue.

Will be interested in looking at Macro and travel stuff, as those are my areas of interest.

Re: I give in.

Welcome to the e-group!

I do like big cameras and DSLRs, of copurse - but carrying them is another matter, as you and countless others have or are beginning to discover.

Ian

Re: I give in.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I do a lot of work in studios and even there a big heavy system restricts my way of working.

Now we have high res mode, even the MF system is no longer an absolute must have.

Keep in mind “test and wow” to try out the PRO lenses.

Similar story for me, too, although in my case, it was Nikon. One day, I had been photographing butterflies in a steep-sided valley and climbing out in hot weather with all that photo gear was simply too much!

You mention an interest in macro photography and I find that the 60mm Olympus macro is excellent. I use it a lot with the E-M1 'stacking' capability, for flower photography. For travel, the low cost 12-50 lens is very handy, since it is weather-protected, covers a useful zoom range, and also has a good macro facility.

I've never looked back

Thanks Mike, A dedicated macro and tubes is the first hole I need to plug. Is the Olympus 60mm the only true macro option?

Re: I give in.

Not quite Jason. There are a few other specific macro lenses.
Micro 4/3s
30mm Olympus
30mm Panasonic
Then there are some of the older 4/3s lenses that work with an adapter
35mm Olympus
50mm Olympus (there is a 1.4x tc that works well with this too)
105mm Sigma
150mm Sigma

These are the main options as far as I am aware although many of the normal Oly lenses are pretty adept at close up shots especially if you add extension tubes.
