CF Cards

Went to the 7 day shop looking for a couple of new CF cards.

Searched all manufacturers, 4GB and got these

http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/defa...o=SEARCH&comp=

I don't want to spend too much but don't want it to fail. That said I wouldn't want to spend 19.99 for the sake of it.

These do seem quite cheap compared to the 4GB+ Lexars and Sandisks

So what the best in this little bunch, do you think, and why?

All my current cards are Sandisks of varying speeds and until this morning never had an issue with any of them.

Researching this because while reading some shots into the computer this morning I received an error. On re-trying it worked fine. The card may just need re-formatting; and no, if its faulty I won't be putting on ebay!

Anway, back to work!

Regards

Graydon

Re: CF Cards

Within the "brands", as long as you buy from a reputable retailer such as 7dayshop, there's not really a "best" card. I would go for the highest speed you can afford, if only to speed up download to computer times. Kodak are made by Lexar, Fuji are good quality, Dane-elec are a longstanding make, as are Kingston. I can't see Duracell putting their name on anything iffy, but Trancend, another "old" name, looks to be the best value for speed.

Re: CF Cards

UDMA type cards are good for your E-3 or E-30 (not sure if the E-620 is UDMA-compliant). 133x high speed cards are safe for all Olympus E-System models, including Pens. If you don't have the latest firmware, you may have problems with UDMA cards on E-510/410 generation models.

Same here.
The last one I got from Play.com, a Sandisc somethingIII 4gig for about 15
I had previously bough a Lexar from Currys but it kept corrupting in my e-410 so I got my money back. I like Currys.

So my opinion is (for CF cards in Olympus DSLRs) I'll only buy Sandisc from now on, but no way I'm ever spending full price!

Re: CF Cards

I've never had problems with any brand of CF card I've bought from 7dayshop, in my E3.

Thanks guys,

Good to hear your experience and views. Thanks Ian for the UDMA information; it was something that occured to me I should have asked after posting.

Re: CF Cards

I believe but am not certain that Dane-Elec is a brand name of Toshiba. Why they would do that I am not certain so I do wonder about the accuracy of the info (especially as I don't remember the source). My wife used Dane-Elec in her Ixus 500 for nearly five years without a hitch. I have bought a couple of Kingston cards which seem to be pretty good, but their 133x cards seem a little slower than the Sandisk equivalent.

Re: CF Cards

I've got a 4gb Kingston and had no probs with it, but saying that I tend to like the integrel cards which I have used from day one and the very first ones I brought are still going strong after 5 years use.

Re: CF Cards

I bought a 16gb Kingston 133x compact flash elite pro card from Ebuyer for 30.14 inc vat and I think thats a good price - some people turn thier noses up at Kingston Cards but I've never had any Bother with them. I use Sandisk Toshiba and Kingston and keep an XD card in there just for panorama stitching shots.

Re: CF Cards

I agree with StephenL. Buy from a reputable dealer and most of the popular cards are pretty good. I tend to have mostly Sandisk but do have some lesser known ones and they are fine too.
My only problem is with 7dayshop.com itself. Everything is all well and good if your item is okay. The problems come when you buy something that doesn't work. It's impossible to contact their customer services, even via their website and letter. They just don't answer.
I bought a battery charger and batteries that worked only once and despite doing everything to get in touch with them, even including asking AP mag to help but to no avail.
That said I've used them siince they were formed many years ago and their prices are pretty hard to beat.
