I’m hoping it will be ‘custom lock’ so you can decide which of the controls (especially portrait ones) you want to lock.

That sounds plausible too.

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

I 'stole' one of Ross's photos and resized it to make a comparison with a screen grab from the teaser video. Looks pretty similar to me.

Except you can't take the grip off - which will kill it for anyone who wants lighter kit and doesn't normally swing big lenses.

Agreed, but I'm just trying to show that it's not the monster some people have been saying. I don't mind the size so much as I use long lenses a lot, but I am concerned about the weight. I hope that as it is one unit, that it comes in lighter than the EM1 II plus grip.

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

Although I use the grip on the E-M1 MkII on occasions it is huge. Bigger than the optional grip for the E-M1 MkI.

More sizeable batteries of course.

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

There will be those that will love the more accessible buttons & the joysticks (on both grips), something new on Olympus cameras, as well being able to charge the batteries in the car from USB. It is going to be a nice camera, as far as I can tell, but won't be suitable for those wanting to use a body without a portrait grip for the sake of keeping the kit smaller etc. I would think that someone using it may include something like an E-M1 Mk II to have with it (already have it).

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

Thinking about this
I don't use a grip but As the new camera is aimed at sport and wild life ( I shoot the later ) It wont bother me to have a fixed grip it may well help balance the longer lenses we use, it's how the camera performs that matters more .
Any other type of photography the E-M1 Mk II is well able to take care of and with that you have a grip / no grip choice and I would think the next E-M1 Mk III would also give a choice so really everyone should be catered for .
Rob.

When I'm shooting with two zoom lenses (12-40 & 40-150) I prefer to have two bodies. The E-M1 Mk II would compliment it fairly nicely with a grip or no grip (portrait) option, although the new E-M1X is supposed to be better in ISO range/low light.

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

Ok, so we've had teaser videos of people photographing first sports, and now motorsports - my prediction for the next one is wildlife. I mean really - with a camera of that size and with its integrated grip, the use cases are pretty obvious!

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

I'm no expert, but I wonder ... maybe Oly aren't aiming so much to provide an upgrade path for existing Oly owners, but instead an extra credible choice for more "use cases" for people moving away from Canon / Nikon. Trying to tempt them to consider Oly rather than Sony/Pany/Fujy. For Canikon FF users, the E-M1X isn't big, but big enough, and the system is affordable. For Oly, getting more users into the system has many benefits including e.g. lens sales.

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

Attracting users from other systems may be part of their aim, but I suspect with a non-removable grip they'll be limiting the market for upgraders already in the system - for the simple reason that most people came to m43 for its size.

Why not have a survey? I am guessing it won't be very many.
