All of this because they are a “Responsible government” and before I get pulled up to define this, can someone please explain how government is behaving responsibly?
I really wouldn't waste my time trying to "split hairs" as you put it.

You are happy to make statements but fail to qualify them when reasonably requested.

Nicely and politely put Nigel.

I think the NHS classifies actions displayed by Phil as "Suffering from a severe lack of Testicular Fortitude"

I'm not sure what's going on with the last few comments, but I hope disagreements in this thread are not about to become personal again.

Why name me? I worked in the NHS for more than 30 years and 20 years of that on the air ambulance. In Kenya I work as a volunteer part time, giving out medicines to the sick and the poor at a charity clinic in the slums and after clinic, I take the Doctors to see patients in the community and into the bush in my 4X4, adults and children who cannot afford to get to clinic or are too sick to travel.

You want talk about testicles....go right ahead

The real issue today is confirmation from government is, that they are stockpiling medication in the event of a no deal and not a discussion about “the best education in the world.

To provide an example, it is no coincidence that our public schools have produced some of the best musicians, rugby players and scientists simply by encouraging those with talent, rather than trying to 'level the playing field' as is so often the case in our county schools.

Indeed, I often wonder whether the county school system is set up to produce students who don't ask too many awkward questions of their elected leaders?

In any case, without public schools, where would Labour MP's send their offspring for an education?

(In fairness, I suspect that Dianne Abbot is hoping that her children will be rather better at maths than she is.)
He he, I did confess to making controversial, sweeping statements.

Yes indeed.

Presumably there is always some kind of contingency in case of national emergency or natural disaster, or is the whole drug supply chain run on a JIT basis?

I am aware that Epi Pens (if that is what they are called) are in short supply, but I gather this is a world-wide shortage.

My issue is that one or two people around here are fond of 'lighting the blue touch paper' by making bold, sweeping statements (such as "the best education in the world"), but then bluntly refuse to qualify those statements.

If you are going to make bold statements on any subject please be prepared to qualify them.

Re: Political: We're doomed, Captain Mannering...

Interesting article by a German journalist (Der Spiegel):

https://www.theguardian.com/commenti...-boris-johnson

Loved this conclusion:

Quote:
Two weeks ago May had a chance to present her ideas for an orderly exit to the other 27 EU heads. She left them confused, and trying to figure out the meaning of her presentation over dinner. Angela Merkel indicated that she didn’t really understand what May had said, but that she would ask the Brexit chief negotiator Michel Barnier to explain it to her. I didn’t make that up; Bloomberg reported it.

The disadvantage of being intelligent is that it hurts when you act stupid. The fool doesn’t feel this pain because they don’t have to pretend. For a nation, the problem begins when the level of stupidity at the top is unusually high, because the smarter people have thrown in the towel. This is generally the point at which decline becomes inevitable.

Re: Political: We're doomed, Captain Mannering...

As we approach our moment of doom... another interesting quote from another journalist from an EU country - this time Ireland:

Quote:
Fintan O’Toole in the Irish Times says, for the UK, Brexit will be like Dunkirk.
Ireland is going to get what it wants and needs: no hard border and, in effect, the softest available Brexit.

The British will get, in return, a declaration that if it can solve the Irish problem it can have its Canada-style trade deal – which is like saying that May can win Strictly as soon as she learns to dance.

But we must button our lips and look glum. The British are still going on about Dunkirk – a retreat reimagined as a glorious victory. It is crucially important that May is allowed her Dunkirk moment.

And to do that she must be allowed to talk up her success in getting all the great things that will follow if the Irish problem is ever solved. Don’t say: good luck with that. Do say: oh, what lovely seashells!

I read that one, Paul. I liked the bit about May going to the E.U. with her crooked smile and crooked plan. Also that we can't leave the E.U. without tripping over our own feet.

There was also a dire picture of the U.K.s future painted by Paul Johnson. Still, what would he know about economics - he's a well respected economi... (erm, wait a bit)!

Re: Political: We're doomed, Captain Mannering...

One of the problems with the whole Brexit situation is exactly that the British are still going on about Dunkirk (and WW2 in general). It's a pity more people cannot look forwards instead of backwards. The number of (mostly elderly) people who still bang on about fighting a war to avoid being ruled by Germany is quite scary. We fought the Nazis, not Germany as such (they just happened to be German) and even if we stay in the EU we are not going to be "ruled" by Germany or anyone else!
