Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

The photos in this thread are great. I am a fairly irregular poster here, so I hope you won't mind me joining in and posting a couple. I've got a fair few bird photos and, as mentioned earlier, they are not everyone's cup of tea. I love them and I learnt a lot grabbing shots of sparrows in flight in my garden.

I live in Northumberland and a short drive from here I can catch a boat out to the Farne Islands where you can get up close to puffin, shag, guillemot, razorbill and kittiwake.

Great shots Ivor.

I have often looked at the trips to Farne and other great sites and wondered about taking a trip. It would be a three day pass for me. But I would love to get the chance of seeing these birds close up.

Good to see people joining in.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

These are three of my favorite images, all for different reasons.

All with the E-1 and 70-300mm

Female of the Species. She is just so beautiful.

Splash ! Just a common Sparrow having fun on a very hot day.

It's in the detail. So many textures to capture in white.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

We've got various North American sparrow species around at the moment on their way south for the winter so I thought I'd post one.

White-throated Sparrow (white striped form).

They're a summer breeding species for us. There's two forms, the tan striped form has tan and brown stripes on the head.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

Thank-you Peter and Ed.

The Farne Islands are well worth a trip, but take a hat if you go to Inner Farne. The arctic tern hurt when they peck you on the head.

Oh, and if you are a middle-aged man like me and decide on an all day trip, don't drink too much in the morning!

Can't speak for Ed... but I am stretching middle age a bit, so I'd have no issue with having a pee behind a bush

But a lovely tern. Ivor

regards

Is that how you got your username Ed?

Thanks!

There aren't any bushes on the Farnes, just open space and lost of photographers! If you go for the day trip you visit Staple Island in the morning and you have to wait for Inner Farne in the afternoon which does have a loo by the chapel.

One of those things they don't tell you before you go. Lots of guys with yellow eyes by lunchtime!

American Tree Sparrow

A spring and autumn passage bird for us, they breed on arctic tundra.

Nice eye-level perspective on the sparrows.
