Re: Cold Is Relative

Thanks read this in the freezer to set the mood. Difficult as the light goes out when the door closes, back lit led displays are great for this sort of thing.

At -40 I do my coat up and find a pair of gloves I can use a camera with.

I know somebody who was hospitalised after sticking his head in the freezer to check if the light went out.

Re: Cold Is Relative

There is a lot of truth in that!

Women in particular seem to be very subjective about temperature, and I am sure are responsible for at least 90% of global warming.

In the winter management complains about the cold. The temperature on her side of the car has to be set to at least 24 C, and more often 26 C with the seat heater permanently on!

My side is set to 21 C. It has to be very cold for me to use the seat heater.

In the summer management complains about the heat. The temperature on her side of the car is usually set to 18 or 19 C, but then it is too cold so the temperature is turned up.

My side is set to 21 C.

Different temperature zones within the car? How big a car have you got?

Re: Cold Is Relative

That's brilliant, Wally, I wondered where it was going but the punch line was hilarious!

Re: Cold Is Relative

Coldest I've ever known outdoors was walking across a GM car park in Milford, Michigan, with a strong freezing wind blowing in from Canada. -27 F. Stayed down there for the 7 1/2 weeks I was there....and I had to go out and buy some warm clothes (difficult, all the shops had summer stuff!) The US project manager before I went said it had been a mild winter, and I wouldn't need cold weather gear... Frozen rivers and lakes, 6 foot icicles on buildings (dangerous when they thaw!), roads like skating rinks. Lovely!

Milford is the highest point of Michigan, wide open all the way to the Yukon.

Re: Cold Is Relative

Car heaters are for defrosting the windows, once you can see where you're driving it goes off, less risk of condensation on your lenses that way.

I've shot film at -40 (the same in C and F) and digital at -20C.

Not that big, and British built; but like many cars nowadays it has different settings for the driver and front seat passenger.

Very funny - and true
I must admit that being a true Scot, I'm not made for heat, much preferring the cool Springs and Autumns.
A warm day in Aberdeen, and contrary to popular belief we have quite a few, has me scurrying indoors

My last car had it but new one doesn't.
What I miss is setting the temp rather than the hotter or colder dial I have now

Re: Cold Is Relative

@ Zuiko.

It's the only reason I could think up to explain why we never get very far... we never get the right conditions.
