Question M.Zuiko lens hood - confusion

Hi

Does anybody have the official Oly Lens Hood for the M.Zuiko 75-300 MK I or MK II?

I have a M.Zuiko 75-300 MK II on order and ordered an Oly lens hood which has now arrived before the lens.

I am puzzled as the packaging says E System Accessory and not M.Zuiko.

Perhaps the same hood is used on some E System and M.Zuiko lenses.

The part number of my hood is LH-61E. Is anybody able to confirm either way if this is correct for the M.Zuiko 75-300 MK II ?

Many thanks

Re: M.Zuiko lens hood - confusion

I have looked online it looks like it is the same hood for the 4/3's and M4/3's 70-300mm

Re: M.Zuiko lens hood - confusion

Not sure if it fits the micro 4/3 70-300 ... but LH-61E is the hood that is on my 4/3 70-300.

Seems likely to be the wrong one to me...

I hope that you are right, I have bought one as well and it arrived long before the lens!

Re: M.Zuiko lens hood - confusion

According to the Olympus site the LH-61E hood is the correct one for the Mk1 75-300, so I imagine it will probably fit the Mk2 version too.

Re: M.Zuiko lens hood - confusion

Hello. The manuals for the MFT 75-300mm and 75-300 II lenses both say that the hood is LH-61E so you are in good shape. This could well be the same as is used with the FT 70-300mm (I haven't checked that).
Incidentally, I got the manuals from
http://www.olympus.co.jp/en/support/...wnload/manual/

Re: M.Zuiko lens hood - confusion

It could be the same hood on both lenses and Oly are selling off stock of old E-System hoods.

The manual for the Mark II at

http://www.olympus.co.uk/site/rmt/me...NUAL_MULTI.pdf

Does say hood is part # LH-61E, but I still have a nagging doubt

Re: M.Zuiko lens hood - confusion

I don't wish to sound overly technical and I may be wrong, but it seems to me the job of the hood is to stop stray light getting into the lens without blocking what you are meant to see. The 70-300mm and 75-300mm will have similar (although not quite identical) coverage angles so as long as the filter diameters are the same and the method of attachment is the same then the same filter can be used.

Re: M.Zuiko lens hood - confusion

I am a little surprised that the 75-300 might have the same lens hood as the 70-300 but I can check at the office tomorrow where we have both lenses plus 70-300 hoods (but no hoods for the 75-300s - at least not that I thought we had!).

Re: M.Zuiko lens hood - confusion

I have tried a lens hood off one of our Zuiko Digital Four Thirds 70-300s and it fits perfectly on a m.Zuiko Micro Four Thirds 75-300

Nice one Olympus!

Thanks Ian, that's good news as I don't need to send mine back to Amazon.

Out of interest, Ian, does it lock into position as tightly on the 75-300 as it does on the 70-300 Four Thirds? It has always been a bit tricky to remove it from that lens, especially in the reversed position. It would be interesting to know if the problem is with the lens or the hood.
