E1 stuck in Program mode any ideas.....?

Hi Folks,

Well I couldn't resist as I need a weatherproof camera for camping so I bought Gorbstein's thoroughly beaten up E-1 for a good price, and it works a dream. So very happy.

However it lacks any grips and a new set of rubber grips was probably going to set me back c.30 plus postage, so foolishly I had a nose on E-bay and managed to win another E1 for 60 fully functional and in good cosmetic condition with all rubbers and seals, apart from the fact that it is stuck in P or P shift mode (no M, A, or S mode, although the control wheel appears operational). So I guessed that at an additional 30 over the cost of the new rubbers it was worth it even if the camera was not 100%.

So, my question to you good folks is - do you think with your collective knowledge I might be able to get the thing working in the other modes? (Assuming it is not a mechanical failure). Things that come to mind include:-

1) factory reset to defaults
2) remove battery overnight
3) Re-flash or upgrade the firmware
4) Compressed air used around the control dial, but can't see that working if it is sealed.

If it means a strip down I think I will just live with it as is.

All suggestions welcome..... Thanks.

Have you tried changing the mode with Olympus Studio.

Theres a trial you can download at...

You never know, it might just kick the dial back into life, although it sounds like the switch within the dial is not operating.

SprocketDog,

Good suggestion I wasn't aware that this could be changed via tethered software. I'll add that to the list of things to try.

Won't get the camera for a few days so won't be able to try any suggestions just yet.

Cheers..http://e-group.uk.net/forum/images/smilies/cheers.gif
