Re: wb on snow ?

I've never adjusted the white balance but you often have to over expose as the meter thinks its awfy bright, under exposes and the snow comes out grey.
One of the nice side effects of snow is if it is below -5C theshadows go a lovely blue and that is worth having. (My moustache also starts to freeze but that's another story.)

Re: wb on snow ?

On a sunny day with a blue sky the snow will pick up the blue from the sky and so I remove some blue in Aperture

Re: wb on snow ?

Hi folks

Thanks for your replies, taking action shots on snow sometimes in the shadow of a course or in bright sun and often when you can't stand where you want to for the right shot on a ski gate versus the sun. There are so many differnt shades of snow and flat light as the skiers call it is b!!y awful. I have tried various settings but never tried adusting the wb.

Re: wb on snow ?

I tend to just over expose by +0.7 or so.
I tried adjusting the WB on a few this winter - in order to try to reduce the blue effect somewhat - but it didn't work as well as a touch of Photoshop did.
