Definately not contenders for Crufts Dog Show!

I went to a local "Dog Fun Day" today...the dogs really didn't want to perform, so it was left to the owners to provide the entertainment!

I don't think one dog completed the course, but it sure was fun!

I'm really not very comfortable taking pictures of people, but it didn't seem too bad today as they were all too busy to notice!

An enjoyable set.

Have you offerred copies to the local dog club, might lead to further opportunities.

Happy people seem to be easier to photograph. There is something about our towns that seems to make people feel miserable, embarassed and as a result they expect that photographers are 'upto no good'.

Agreed! I did some photos for my local dog show and a few are now being published with an article in the paper! Worth a try for sure.

Lovely set of pictures! Looks like you had a good day for it

You're so right there! Nobody seemed to bat an eyelid, and it was great fun to be able to photograph people having fun.

I did ask a few of them first if they'd mind me taking pictures, but nobody declined.

I had an unfortunate incident last year, when I was doing nothing more sinister than taking pictures of sparrows feeding in the flower displays in the town centre. A woman walked into shot with a baby in a buggy, and subjected me to a tirade of abuse for being a "pervert". It was very disturbing and unsettling, so it's rather put me off photographing people, although it's something I'd love to do.

Re: Definately not contenders for Crufts Dog Show!

I don't get on with taking portraits etc. but I've found that taling photos of people doing things is completely different. So I photograph sports and musicians. Nearly everybody is pleased to see the results (we don't get too many prima donnas playing the back bar of my local!) and because they are concentrating on what they are doing I can just get on with it. I always try to ask first, though.

It sounds as though your doggie people were similar - busy doing something that they are enthusiastic about - and they could well be pleased to see the photos.

Ciao ... John

Yes, it's disturbing when it happens, both the abuse and the assumption behind it. At the end of the day it says far more about the person being abusive than it does you.

But you also meet the people who are interested in what you are doing, or the equipment that you are using and who just stop for a chat. And there is still the almost reflex politeness that stops so many people crossing in front of you when you are composing/taking a picture.
