A couple of low light shots from yesterday evening...

We went out for a walk to see what we could see at Wicken Fen as the evening set in...

I'm a little disappointed with my post processing, as I couldn't get the balance between sharpening and noise reduction how I wanted it, however, we saw these and some little owls (at a distance flying between buildings in the almost dark..)

All at iso 6400 and as fast as I could (1/1000th for all these, I did drop right down to 1/25th for some wild ponies later.)

First shot of a cuckoo...

And settled

Some passing ducks (Gadwell?)

...and a short eared owl

The second one of the cuckoo is nice and I like the shot of the owl.

For low light, these are rather good.

Certainly very good results Paul. What was the lens used? The settings used are really pushing Oly limits...…..……..

What was the secret bit...……..

These were with the 300mm f4 with MC1.4 added, so all at f5.6, the iso was at 6400, so I played with the exposure correction a little to ensure they were exposed as near to correct as possible. The Oly certainly punishes you for under exposed photos in these conditions!

The photos were RAW, and post processed in Lightroom, but as I said, I'm not all together happy with the balance between sharpening and noise reduction, but I think these are probably as good as I'm going to get.

I use either 9 focus points and standard shutter button C-AF or 1 small focus point and back button focussing C-AF, switching between the two on the C1 and C2 pre-sets. (C3 is set up for planes!)
