Updating and camera settings?

Hi
I have not updated my E-M10 since I got it. If I do update the firmware will I loose the camera setting as well. If so is there a way to save settings and then re-install after the update?
Or do I just go through the current settings and make a note on paper, update, then go back in and change them one by one?
Thanks for any help offered
Steve

Re: Updating and camera settings?

As far as I recall there hasn't been a major update to the E-M10 firmware that wipes the settings, not all updates wipe the settings. The recent major updates to the E-M1 and E-M5 Mk II did wipe the settings and this was well publicised, especially on this forum

Re: Updating and camera settings?

As Iain says, some firmware updates leave your settings intact. Others, usually the bigger ones, will wipe nearly everything. And there is no way to back the settings up and then restore them.

Sooner or later you will want to do an update that will wipe everything, so I'd suggest going through and noting all your changes. It is a pain in the seating area, for sure, but it can also be useful if you want to review what you have done. With a new camera we usually play around a lot until we settle on a config that suits us - if you know how everything is now you may well find that you have set some stuff that you don't really need.
