Milawa Feast of Art - Art Show Opening Night

I'm pleased to report that the opening was a great success, at least 100 guests turned up, it was a very social atmosphere.
Robyn Chambers introduced Wangaratta councillor, Ruth Amery who was there to open the show, and introduced me.

(LEFT) First prize ($700) in the 2D ART Section was awarded to Mary Gilmour for her floral watercolour titled, "Secret Garden"

Kerrin Chambers adds a dash or Milawa Gourmet Chutney to my sausage roll!

First prize ($700) for PHOTOGRAPHY was awarded to Zane Osborne for a stunning landscape titled, "Horsing Around".
Zane steps up to receive his prize for a photograph that I wish I had taken!

First Prize for TEXTILE ART, $700 was awarded (in absentia) to Faye Marks for her amazing "Green & White Jacket,
I was told she's a lovely lady over 80 yrs of age, I wish she had been there to receive her prize

LOCAL ARTIST AWARD, $150 to Kathy Beilby for her textile, "Factory Creek"

A quiet chat with Robyn while waiting for the guests to arrive.

Salina took care of the photography using her smart phone camera (not bad, sans flash!) dad did the edits!

Ruth Amery, Robyn Chambers and self.

Well done to all - including your good self.
Looking at the various pieces in the 'background', it's easy to see how judging put you in such a quandary. Also amazing the range and depth of skills, and all from a population of 18,000. Doubt we often get that sort of commitment over here. Heartiest Congratulations.

Re: Milawa Feast of Art - Art Show Opening Night

iso - Thanks for your thoughtful comment although at 18,000 you sold our population short, the official 2016 figure gives it as 28,559 - but between friends, a difference of 10,000 is a mere bagatelle!

In all we had 138 2D Visual Art entries, 26 Textile Art entries, 37 Photographic Art entries. It was indeed a privilege to have been invited to judge this year's Feast of Art - Art Show and deciding upon the winning entries from such a high standard of work across all sections was quite challenging. I made assessments on what I considered to be the standout entries based upon Originality, Technique, Craftsmanship, Composition, Tonality, Texture, Narrative and the "Wow" factor.

Does the wow factor include the "I wish that was in my portfolio" factor?

Thanks Andrew and David.

The First Prize Entries were:

2D VISUAL ART
Mary Gilmour's marvellous watercolour "Secret Garden"

PHOTOGRAPHIC ART
Classified as a landscape I saw Zane Osborne's "Horsing Around" as an well timed shot.
A mob of horses set against a picturesque bush hillside. It has many of the criteria I used for selecting winners.

TEXTILE ART
Faye Mark's "Green & White Jacket" displays an amazing display of crocheted stitches.

They all look 'deserved'. Pop figures came from the Net (either sudden influx of rabbits, or as usual someone punched in the wrong key!!).
Anyhow comments still stand. Great participation producing exceptional results. I live near an area of 65,000, still would not pass a knat on you lot

It's been really interesting to follow this, Mark, and some of those art works look extremely good.
So, have you had the email from the Turner Prize administrator yet?

Thanks, Mark.
I'm still waiting to hear from the administrator, Mark. A word from you to remind him would be much appreciated though.
