Tough Call

I was thinking of buying another E-M10 II body as I love the one I have and have no real GAS to upgrade....... until I noticed E-M1 Mk 1 bodies with really low shutter counts going for less than 400.

It's the built in grip and larger EVF that's really pulling me (plus no horrible Mk II flippy-out screen), as the picture quality will be much of a sameness.

I know it's not up to the Mk II, but guess it's still a great camera. Don't you just hate photography at times?

Re: Tough Call

If you wait until a year next October you will start to see the used price of the Mk ii come crashing down.

Re: Tough Call

The Mk I is still a jolly good camera - and it is weather-sealed which might give you extra options that another 10 would not

Re: Tough Call

Thanks, guys. Can anyone confirm the Mk 1 does live composite? One review I read said yes, the other never mentioned it in the features list at all?

I suppose hanging off for a Mk II would be the sensible thing, but prices aren't dropping much....

Yes, page 41 of the manual.

Re: Tough Call

The E-M10ii is a nice camera, but the E-M1 is a much better one! If the price difference isn't huge, then go with the E-M1.

Re: Tough Call

As well as being weather-sealed, E-M1 has better grip, and more sophisticated AF (intelligent selection of PDAF or CDAF depending on context) compared to E-M10 II. I think E-M10 II lets you use touch screen to select AF point even when using viewfinder, though some people switch this off as a nose on the screen can have unwanted effects. I don't think either has the Hi-Res mode which is on the E-M5 II and E-M1 II and can be useful for studio or landscape work with static subjects and solid tripod. E-M10 II has a pop-up flash whereas E-M1 has an accessory flash included to attach to hotshoe.

On the used market, E-M1s have been going very cheaply as people sell them off to upgrade to mark II.
