Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

That looks more like a Spotted Flycatcher to me Mark. A very nice bird either way.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

Ron, Thanks for the correction. Just looked up the lbj in Collins, and I agree with you. There was a less white throat around at the time but no photo alas.

Thanks..

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

I was at Carlton Marshes this evening and as I was walking back to the car I noticed an Egret feeding by the reeds which looked bigger than the others I had seen. As I was looking at it, it suddenly took off and I noticed the yellow bill and realised that it was a Great White Egret. I scrabbled to get my camera out and managed to get a record shot before it departed. Unfortunately the light was pretty bad so it is not very impressive. However it is my first G W Egret in flight, so I am quite happy.

E-M1 II and 300mm f/4.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

hi Ron

It is fun to be able to get grab shots and keep the memory. For a long while I stopped trying as the sluggish focus was hopeless, but now with the ability to get a good record I enjoy seeing quick glimpses and getting similar. Glad you are with your system too.

I look forward to Kingfishers in flight!

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

While driving in heavy rain through the Montsia Mountains in Catlunya this morning I turned a corner to see this Golden Eagle perched in a roadside fir tree.
Was able to grab three shots before having to move for traffic.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

I saw my first Redwings of the autumn today. They were rather wary and there was no cover to hide behind, so this quite a large crop.

Interesting, we've still got summer species around. There's at least eight Dark-eyed Juncos in view as I type this. I had two Monarch Butterflies heading south, which seems awfully late and a pair of Dragonflies mating today.
