Alone In The Forest With No Idea

In the past Hatfield Forest has, for me, always been a happy and prolific hunting ground for photographs. Not so this morning. The light was not outstanding or exciting in any way but it was pleasant enough and there were signs of Spring bursting into life everywhere. However, my inspiration seemed to have gone on an early Easter holiday and I was in danger of drawing a complete blank until I found these two shots near the end of my session. Like the light, they are not outstanding or exciting in any way, but at least I came home with something.

I like them John. Whatever happened the good old days when things used to be straight? I wonder what Lightroom's automatic vertical correction would make of that fence? I think it would expire in a puff of smoke.

Go back with a hammer and nails and fix the fence and then take another shot. Even as it is there is a sense of tranquility that comes through - or is that just neglect and non-disturbance?

Haha, for me the wonky fence was part of the attraction; if it was in better condition I probably wouldn't have shot it. The 12mm focal length probably "enhanced" it a little, too!

Same with the trees in No 2; to me their appeal was that they were growing out of the slope at an angle.

You didn't lean on that fence by any chance John just to make it more interesting
You've done more getting out and about than me. It's good to see Spring is getting started.

Blimey, if I leant on that fence it would collapse completely.

When getting out of my chair at home I often lose my balance and fall straight back in it. The other day my cheeky daughter yelled, "Tim-ber!"

I see nothing much at all wrong with the light John, it appears beautifully soft and diffused. We don't see that quality of light much here. With Autumn and winter ahead I am looking forward to getting out and about and will see if I can find a few fences or fence posts to post

I know I'm greedy, but I was hoping for rising mist from the lake infused with the vibrant colours of a firey dawn!

Maybe next time.

I like these shots John. I love old fences especially the 'post and hole' knowing that they were hand cut. Also wonder how much fruit this little orchard produced over the years.

Aaaah - another fence! Fabulous John.
Don't you dare go back and fix it, it is perfect as is.

I was surprised to find the remains of this orchard tucked away within the forest, it seemed stragely out of context. Thinking about it, though, it's not far from an old warrener's cottage, so maybe rabbit cooked in cider was a favourite on the menu.
