Help needed
Hi all, newbie here. I am just getting into astro-photography and I need to use a remote/cable shutter release on the E300. The user manual suggests a I/R remote but. That can only be used from the front. Is there a way to attach a cable shutter release or other remote option? Any advice would be welcome

Re: Help needed
I think the answer is no, though I have seen clever DIY remotes that use plunger-style remotes strapped to the camera body and then push down on the shutter release button. Here's a site that's the "Last Word" on older Olympus cameras:
http://www.wrotniak.net/photo/43/e300-rev.html It sure would have been nice to have the infrared sensor on the back as well as the front. On the 500 (which also lacks the option for a wired remote), at least it extends to the top of the camera so you can trigger from above.

Re: Help needed
Hello Al, welcome to a friendly forum.
As far as I know, the only way to attach a wired remote to the E-300, is by adding the HLD-3 battery grip. It has a socket on one end to take one of the 3 pin remotes common to the E-1, 3 & 5. N.B it is a different remote to the other E series cameras. They do crop up second hand from time to time; you could try a wanted ad on the relevant part of this very forum.

Re: Help needed
Hi Al and welcome.
![]() You can fit an electronic cable release to an E-300 but only when the HLD-3 grip is also fitted (it plugs into a socket on the grip). Here's a couple of links to ebay, so you can see what I'm talking about http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Remote-Shu...item3a70f90a89 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/olympus-hl...item2c6b3b198b

Re: Help needed
Small mirror to reflect the infrared beam.

Re: Help needed
Hey Guys, many thanks for your swift responses. I thought a cable release would be out of the question and using the HLD-3 adding that much weight to a telescope would not be sensible. Your idea of using a small mirror, Dave, might be a possibility. Will set the scope up and fit the camera to see what clearance I have. shouldn't be too difficult to site on the scope body.
Thanks again Guys, really impressed with the responses. BigAl |

Re: Help needed
Hi Al and welcome. I have a wireless remote (Chinese, of course!) which works well with my E620, but I'm not sure about the E300. The transmitter part fits into the hot shoe on the camera and the remote radio trigger can be held anywhere away from the camera. It's a JYC model E2 which I probably bought on Amazon (or perhaps on eBay) and it worked for me.
