Impressive shot Toby. Too cloudy here at present to have a go tonight. Will try again later.

Re: The Moon

Ditto but EM-1i
Super Snow Moon Image at 400mm 1/1000 at f6.3, hand-held.

Cropped by about 80%.

I was wondering if I should try again at a slightly smaller aperture but review test results show it to be sharpest wide open.

Re: The Moon

It did clear later so I had a quick go this was the best I could get with the 40-150 plus tc. I think you've just convinced me to go for a 100-400 rather than wait for an Oly x2 converter.

Re: The Moon

I am going to have a go using the 2 X inbuilt digital teleconverter next chance I get. I had forgotten about it being there until Mark reminded me. It only works with JPGs so I guess there will be some loss of dynamic range but let us see.

Re: The Moon

I tried it on my previous attempt but found it was just about better to stick with the cropped raw edit rather than the x2 jpg. It was very close though and I was surprised because in the past I've preferred the x2 versions. maybe that's because I now do more processing than I used to?
I take all my shots hand held so maybe I ought to get the tripod out and see if there is any difference there.

Re: The Moon

I tried to get the moon through gaps in the clouds, with the 8" scope.

Not too impressive, this photo is uncropped to you see the magnification on the scope is good. I think I used too slower shutter speed alas...…….

Re: The Moon

A lot of detail in your photos snerkler. I took one with the 40-150 + MC14 & with the 2 x DTC, just because I could as seen in this thread.

The magnification is amazing. I think you are right a shutter speed shorter than 1/500 sec or even faster is needed. Also, getting the focus spot on gets harder. What focal length was the scope?

Re: The Moon

The 8" Newtonian is about 900mm long, and reflects back maybe 800mm Thus a length of 1700mm. I am thinking of trading it in against an Ioptron Skytracker to use with the Oly and 400mm Pany...…...Much better quality photos I think...
