Airshow

To avoid the throngs of spectators and traffic snarls on the M1 I took a birds eye view from the You Yangs
of an aerial display by Australia’s new F-35A Joint Strike Fighters. We have ordered 51 of them reported to have
cost the Taxpayer a paltry 100,000,000 each. There were also a number of other military aircraft including the EA-18G Growler,
F/A-18A/B Hornet, the F/A-18F Super Hornet and several support aircraft including the C-17A Globemaster III and the C-27J Spartan.

The jets made many passes over and around the You Yangs Flinders Peak where I sweltered in 38C heat!

Friday was a searing hot 38C for an Indigenous LGBT wedding. The You Yangs is an Australian Aboriginal Sacred Site

The choice of a good vantage point has produced some nice shots.

Thanks OM. The downside was that I didn't get to see whatever displays were featured at the airfield, but at the end of the day I was thankful to have avoided the traffic with a clear 300km run all the way home to Wang'.

Re: Airshow

I thought that Australia was still buzzing with excitement at the landing of Amy Johnson at Darwin in her DH Tiger Moth!

The wedding event was a bonus that put me in wedding toger mode.
First time I've witnessed an aboriginal wedding, interesting.

Don't know the significance, but it was a traditional part of the ceremony.

Re: Airshow

Cracking shots from a great vantage point Mark. Good to see an alternative view of an airshow. Not so sure about the wedding nosh though, not sure I'd be wanting to eat what he's preparing

Re: Airshow

Thanks for your thoughts, Phill. Nothing was cooking there. The pile of gum leaves and smoke are purely ceremonial in Aboriginal culture, something akin to the Catholic pendulant brass brazier thing carried by bishops in ceremonial ritual.

The swinging fire in the churches was to help overcome the smell of the great unwashed so as not to offend the noses of the chaps in the pretty dresses.

Re: Airshow

To return to topic, a few less glamorous airplanes to keep this show in the air …

Re: Airshow

Nice Mark, all are just fine.

Do you remember the Push me Pull you aircraft, back in the 70's?

We also had the Flying Pig.. All up in New Guinea at that time.....

Thanks Mark, I'm afraid I don't remember the Push me Pull me aircraft, presumably one with two props, one forward, one aft. Nor am I familiar with the Flying Pig unless it be of the "might" variety that my wife retorted when asked a preposterous question.
