Should I crop?

Should I crop this to 16:9 since nothing much on top or bottom. Should I brighten it slightly?

Re: Should I crop?

You mean like this? Lazily I just cropped it in Picassa and applied the "I'm feeling lucky" auto fix! It's a nice shot, I'm sure there is a lot more you can do with it if you process it better though.

Re: Should I crop?

Yes, definitely crop. Suits letterbox format better imho. Nice shot!

Re: Should I crop?

I had a quick tweak in LR too Henry after I posted but to be honest I preferred the first Picasa edit. If you do it with the original raw file in LR I'm sure you could get more detail out of the sky and water.

I think that Phil's edit is pretty much spot-on. Great shot Henry!

Re: Should I crop?

Crop definitely, but maybe not quite so much... let the bottom naturally fade into the black and give a smidgen nore headroom to the spire.

I think I would prefer that too. Maybe a 3:2 crop.

Re: Should I crop?

I agree with a 'letter box' crop and also like to reduce the blue cast - I neutralised the colour of the frame of the building on the left.

I feel it makes the image more 'tranquil'

Re: Should I crop?

Per others, crop. Also, read up on negative space and try to get a feel for when a lot of space works well and when it detracts. That’s the hard part that those (most) of us who are not trained artists might struggle with.

Re: Should I crop?

Did some editing. Upped the exposure, think it's about 2 whole stops Crop the top off and a bit off the sides The Blue cast was the sunrise so left it as that.

Well? what do you guys think
