A couple of recent shots. A brown form Common Field Grasshopper (i think) and a female ruddy darter.

Re: Communal Dragonfly, Butterfly and Insect photo thread

Very nice picture of the grasshopper Pete! I found a green one a month or two ago whilst out walking. The E-M1 was at home, but I had my XZ-1 with me, and managed to get this:-

Not bad for a compact camera, if not a patch on yours!

Cheers,

Ralph.

The Willow Emeralds are slowly spreading across Suffolk and I've been told that they have been spotted in Essex. I know the best site to find them, if you fancy a visit to Suffolk next August let me know and I'll take you to the site.

Sorry, I have been in Edinburgh for a few days, so I am just catching up.

That is a very kind offer, I will be very pleased to come to see your site. Thanks for the offer to show me round it is appreciated.

I aim to go to Strumpshaw Fen again next year too. I have only been once and I saw the potential, but just not a lot there on the day of my visit...it was overcast and a bit cold.

kind regards

Excellent shot, very envious. I am pleased you are going back through your previous catalogues. I have an E520 which probably is about to get sold, and an E3. But they take lovely pictures, and I have been offered such a small amount! I just find the newer cameras a bit easier to manually focus. But the quality of the E510 was fine as was my E500 which was traded in last year.

I am looking forward to some examples from an E1...anyone? Or film?

No worries Peter, I'd guessed you were busy.

Please let me know when you plan to visit Strumpshaw Fen next year, I plan to visit it myself in June if the weather is good.

That's provided I have a camera by then, my thread in the E-M1 section explains.

Pete, Ralph

Two lovely grasshoppers. Have you any of the ones I see with blue wings? That may only be in France. Not a species I have studied but they are lovely subjects.

...Ralph, thanks for posting please don't hold back. I have been amazed at the variety and enthusiasm for the subject. The more the better.

regards

Ah,

I may have some E1 images, I'll search through my folders and see if I can find anything.

Mind you, although I traded in my E500, E510 and E1, I did keep a new unused E1 as I couldn't bear to part with it.

It may end up getting some use after all.

I guess there's a bright side to everything.

It is hard to plan ahead but I would always be happy to visit with some friends especially those who know the site and can arrange the weather. Beyond that I would need to check the local dragonfly groups for emergence and any other help. But June is a good marker.

Saw your lost camera post. Perhaps they will send you a new one as a replacement with the updated fw to make amends? Hope it is sorted without stress.

regards

Re: Communal Dragonfly, Butterfly and Insect photo thread

Having asked I also had a look at my old photos. Do we really need the new cameras we buy? Taken with my E500 and E1 cameras in 2006

Having raised the issue I looked at my old photos, burned to DVD! Those were the days before taking hundreds a day! I know how long it took me so a big thank you for doing the same!

These are wonderful. It shows you have some real treasures to look back on.

Anyone else with some oldies and goodies?

And a Dorset based Bush Cricket (long antennae ) in 2006 with the E500 - our resident expert Pete may tell us more...

My not so expert guess from the shot is a male nymph speckled bushcricket.

A short-winged conehead for more variation, an adult female
