Loupedeck

Note from Ian: A discussion on Loupedeck and the newer version, Loupedeck Plus, started in the middle of a separate thread and was not on-topic so I'm moving the posts here.

Loupedeck is a physical console you attach to your PC which has adjustment controls and buttons for more precise control of image editing functions in Lightroom and other supported software packages.

Does anyone here use a Loupedeck?

Ian (surprisingly not (yet) feeling jet-lagged).
Good morning Ian, I use Skylums Luminar 2018 and Aurora HDR 2028 for post editing. I have an account with Skylum and they sent me a video about Loupedeck. Here is a link to the device which promotes the Loupedeck and Aurora:

Okay - I don’t know if it’s for me or not. At £199 Amazon it could be the deal of the century. The review is on Vimeo.

Re: The reality is that the e-group needs your help

Don't confuse the original product launched last year with the 'Plus' version which is just becoming available now and is the version I have to evaluate. The Plus version has more controls and, in response to criticisms, better quality components.

The version in the video linked to by Phil (GateKeeper) is the old one.

Thanks John, it is a concept I am not used to. I am going to notify Skylum about the link they sent me, pointing out to them that it does not relate to the updated Plus version, highlighted by Ian. I was half tempted to ask Ian to delete my post, as I did not want to be responsible for fake news. I am looking forward to seeing the latest review for the updated Plus version.

Thank you very much John.

The plus version is no doubt more expensive and some people may be happy to purchase the older version and pay less after seeing the video.

Regards,

John
The old version may be discounted to clear stocks but my understanding is that the new Plus version is the same list price (£199).

Hi Ian

I posted the video link up in good faith with the intention of being helpful. In light of your above comments, I have written to Skylum and asked them to make a new demo video which promotes Loupedeck Plus blah, blah.

Hence a copy of my message to the Skylum Community Support Team:

“Hi folks, the demo video for Loupedeck does not reflect the latest device called Loupedeck Plus. The demo is very interesting but it is about the first model and not the latest. Please can admin on Skylum or Loupedeck make a new video which promotes Loupedeck Plus. This was picked up by the Olympus forum Overlord in the camera club I belong to, thank you very much”

There is no issue at all with the link - the video serves to show what a Loupedeck does. I simply wanted to warn people that the references to prices and suppliers was for the old version and so I wanted to ensure that anyone thinking of buying one knew this

Re: Loupedeck

How does the hardware accomodate changes in the LR user interface eg adding a new control.
or
is only for a specific make of software.

John
It's a mixing desk for image processing. I guess you don't use Lightroom, John? It's really fiddly having to manipulate sliders and scroll the panel to find the adjustment you need and this can slow things down significantly. Loupedeck Mark 1 is already very popular among professional photographers as well as amateurs. There were some criticisms of the build quality among other things, which can be expected when people see the potential and want more.
