Aviemore Ospreys

I've recently come back from a trip to Scotland, and while there I decided to try an early morning Osprey photography session. It was fab!
It did mean getting up at 4.30am but I then had 3 hours in a hide next to a small well stocked pond of fish, with a running commentary of where ospreys were in the sky and when they were about to dive. All I had to do was deal with initially extremely low light levels. Luckily it got brighter, but was never that good, although on a sunny morning it would be extraordinary. Anyway. If you're near Aviemore between about May and August and fancy it I can thoroughly recommend Aviemore Ospreys.

Here's a few of my best, but not as good as some of you guys would manage I'm sure. A faster lens would have been better, but I used the Panny 100-400. Much post processing happened !

Re: Aviemore Ospreys

Last week the driver of the Mountain Railway (that wasn't running) told me the Ospreys very quickly moved in when they started the fish farms...

Very good action shots.

Re: Aviemore Ospreys

As others have said, great shots. Quick question, how many people in the hide for this?

Well worth the early start to get those shots Cindy, it looks like quite an experience.

I was the only one in this case, so I had no distractions, but then also no-one else to discuss settings with!. I think they take up to 8, but they had two hides there, and there's loads of room to spread out. It's a brilliant set up.

Re: Aviemore Ospreys

Thanks, certainly worth making a note for when we next make it to Scotland. It’s on the list but we decided on Norfolk next year instead. Doh!

Re: Aviemore Ospreys

I was close'ish to Aviemore a couple of weeks ago. I didn't know that this was even possible. We have our trip to Scotland already booked for next year but will be too far south. Fantastic pictures and what a nice opportunity.
