The police monitor such sales, as the youngster next door found out when he was buying parts to do up cars.

So why be out there plodding the beat when you can sit in a warm office, coffee and donuts at the ready and ‘police’ the net all day. Sure as hell beats dealing face to face with real criminals. I guess the latest police intakes are a bunch of snowflakes too!

I 100% agree.

How can the police maintain law and order on our streets, unless they actually have a presence on our streets!

Snowflakes ? Given a large percentage of serious crime these days involves the use of the internet, without these highly trained, skilled, intelligent "Snowflakes" the world would be a much more dangerous place. Sorry but the days of Z Cars are long gone.

Try walking down the main street of any UK town carrying a shotgun. See how long it takes before you're on your belly in the gutter with an assault rifle pointed at your head. Probably nothing to do with Mr Plod patrolling the street but the diligence and skill of the "Snowflake" viewing the CCTV screen.

I take it you’ve never seen some of the output from typical CCTV then. I defy you or anyone to identify someone from it, let alone be able to actually prosecute someone. Waste of friggin time for the most part. I’m sure there is some useful footage but I reckon it’s a tiny minority of the total.

Get the police out there, get them interacting with the public, picking up local knowledge instead of in some centralised call centre where none of them have any practical experience of the beat they are supposedly looking after.

Appalling state of affairs.

Don't they have a few pints in the pub any more to pick up the local gossip?

The police may be escorting felons to the local A&E while the felon has his or her jaw or face or broken limbs sorted out.

The neighbour had a bluelight trip in the middle of the night to the local A&E for a health issue and there were 6 police there escorting 3 miscreants between them. Fortunately there were two other police out on the town keeping Pompey peaceful.

Long before police staffing levels were discussed as they are now, I came across an overturned car at 2am in the middle of nowhere in Derbyshire. The fire brigade arrived within 15 mins but the police and ambulance took 40 mins. I was informed by the police officer there was only one Traffic Car on duty for the whole of Derbyshire and he was it.

So Derek if you had 8 police on duty in one urban area you were not doing too bad

On Valentine's night about thirty-five years ago I witnessed a soft top MGB hit a ridge of snow in the middle of the A3 near Milford which caused it to roll over twice, landing on its roof over a snow-covered ditch. Mercifully the pretty young girl who was driving was unhurt, but very badly shaken.

She was shivering uncontrollably in the cold night air so I invited her to sit in my car until the police arrived. There were very few mobile phones then but a lorry driver had called the emergency services on his CB radio. The fire brigade arrived first, checked that the girl was not badly hurt, pulled her car out of the ditch and went on their way. Next the ambulance arrived. The ambulance crew checked the girl over and made sure she was OK. She didn't want to go to hospital so they brought her back to my car.

Finally, after about forty minutes the flying squad arrived with blue lights blazing and sirens wailing. They thought I had had the accident so when I went so speak to them I was read the riot act and told to blow into a bag! When they finally shut up for long enough to listen I explained what had happened. They spoke to the girl asking 'are you alright love', said there was nothing they needed to do and went. What a difference!

So nothing changes really.
