Focus bracketing won't work with flash (5mkii)

I've been trying focus bracketing and have just discovered if I turn focus bracketing to "on" the shutter release frame rate auto sets to silent, high and I can't change it.
The problem is when the silent shutter is enabled it disables flash!
Is this affecting anyone else or just me?? Am I missing something??
Seems daft as there's a setting in the focus bracketing set up for flash recharge time!

Re: Focus bracketing won't work with flash (5mkii)

I have the E-M10 MKII which has Focus Bracketing and it does the same. What you have to do is, when it has disabled the flash select Flash on the SCP and you will see it will enable you to select Manual Flash and adjust its power.

I presume this has come about because Focus Bracketing uses Silent Shutter/Sequential mode which cannot normally be used with flash and Olympus have forgotten to make it select Manual Flash automatically when you use Focus Bracketing + Flash.

Regards.

Re: Focus bracketing won't work with flash (5mkii)

Thanks for the reply Peter.
I also asked the question on another forum and got a reply that the flash worked but at restricted speeds so had a play.
I originally tried with the supplied fl-lm3 flash but was unaware of the sequence you have posted and as it didn't work, i didn't try my Metz flash.
I have tried the Metz now though and it works in all modes apart from manual with focus bracketing on. Max sync speed is 1/20th second.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Focus bracketing won't work with flash (5mkii)

Glad you got it sorted Paul.

I did look at the E-M5 MK II manual update for Focus Bracketing which says "For flash shooting set the shutter speed to 1/20th sec or slower" but that note doesn't appear in the E-M10 MK II manual.

Regards.

That's all good to know, especially when the manual doesn't explain it well enough.
