Re: Long Tailed Tit
That's a cracker. The 100-400 is quite a lens really. I reckon that it's 95% of the sharpness of the 300 f4, but the zoom makes it a much more versatile option. It's a pity that Oly and Panasonic can't support each other's IS systems though so that we can have Sync IS with this lens on Oly bodies.

Re: Long Tailed Tit
Unfortunately, there still seems to be problems with compatibility with the EM1ii regarding the bayonet fit.
One person on another forum said that they found it a very tight fit on their EM1ii and contacted Panasonic who told them it was an Olympus fault. The person contacted Olympus who said that it was a known problem and that some springs on the bayonet needed loosening and send it in for fixing. https://www.mu-43.com/threads/adjust.../#post-1251466 |

Re: Long Tailed Tit
It was certainly a tight fit on my EM1mk2 when I borrowed one for the weekend off a mate but I certainly wouldn't get my camera fiddled with either as all my Oly lenses fit perfectly.
That's a lovely shot Toby, it's certainly a good birding lens if the light is good. I'm in too minds weather to get one myself or to wait for the Oly x2 TC to use on my 40-150 f2.8.

It will be interesting to see how the 2x is on the 40-150mm f2.8. This would make it 80-300mm f5.6 so the obvious comparison would be the Panny 100-300mm mark II. IMO it would have to be markedly better to warrant the extra weight using that combo over the 100-300mm.But both still lose 100mm compared to the 100-400mm. There's just too much blinking choice these days ![]()

Re: Long Tailed Tit
Too many problems keep cropping up with regard to the Panny 100-400 fit and non repair .... yet I also see many reports of people being very happy with it.
As my 75-300 is doing very well for me at present and the 150-400 pro is out of my comfort zone both in weight and for my pocket. I think I'll wait and see what the planned (approx) 100-400 one will be like as seen on the lens roadmap from Oly. |
