A few questions more...

Following on from my "Help I need somebody" thread... I have opted to go for the Oly Stylus 1... which brings me to:

A few questions for those with the Stylus 1

a/- How difficult is it to set up / arrange the Oly Image Share side of things? A quick perusal of the PDF Manual leaves a lot to be desired to say the least.

b/- How well does it work?

This could possibly be handy to use with a mobile phone to act an additional pair of hands in certain circumstances and, hopefully act as a temporary photo file back-up to my phones micro SD storage card.

Thanks in advance.

Very easy. Just make sure that your Wifi on the phone is set to connect to the camera when the camera Wifi is active. I've had to set a few peoples phones to do this as it's not always automatic (or obvious)

I've had it working up to 10m away with clear line of sight and 5m in the house.

The controls are easy to use. An ipad makes it better for those like me with big fingers, and the iphone can be a bit hard to see in bright light.

Have fun...

Re: A few questions more...

Hi Graham, thank for the input. Working on getting the new toy but it will be a few weeks before I get 'hands on', so will have time to trawl through the manual. Typical of Oly, things get strewn here there and everywhere... the thrill of the chase awaits.

Re: A few questions more...

Apart from the manual there are additional features that have been added.
http://dl01.olympus-imaging.com/ww/u.../index20a.html
Here's a screen print of that page.

The small focus points were a very welcome addition (not that I would suggest using it for everything). I hope you find the camera useful & up to your expectations (or to what we've led you to expect).

Re: A few questions more...

Thanks Ross.

I'm not too worried about V2 as it will hopefully be there on a new camera. If not, then there is nothing to lose when it gets updated.

Will need to shift my ep-3's and lenses to help with the funding of camera and, if all goes well, with a little help from friends and family, an attempt to empty most of my bucket list.

Have already dowloaded the PDF manual and spent days trying to work out how to print it off on both sides @ a5 booklet format then found you can buy one - probably cheaper than a DIY version - SODS law..

Re: A few questions more...

They seem pricey, mainly because of the shortcomng that they have little in the way of explanation in them, but I have purchased the Olympus manuals for my E-M5 and E-PM2 from the olympus shop. I find them well printed and bound.

Have been all over and under the Oly UK site and nowhere can I find a printed manual? Each attempt brings up the PDF download version which I have.

The only place I could find (UK) that can provide a 'printed version' was the OCR website.

Is there an Olympus link you can provide?

Thanks in advance.

Re: A few questions more...

Wally do you have a tablet? If so try it I find it much easier that my phone as the screen is much larger. Was working this am using it and am getting a range of 60+ ft I am indoors camera out in the garden. If it all works I will post shots latter. Not being lazy I have a bad chest infection so can sit in the heat and take shots out in the cold, only have to set up and then collect camera when complete!

I bought the printed manual for the OMD-EM1 for 5 in a4 size and when I enquired regarding A5 they charged the same and I was lucky ? enough at that time fireware 2.1 was out and it was an updated version. I got mine on Ebay not sure of the seller but I could have a hunt if you need help.

Re: A few questions more...

Hi Ed, I've been on Yukbay just to see if such a beast exists = NO. I don't use that site after getting ripped off buying an e3. Was fortunate that as part of a group, after several months, I and some others - but not all - got refunded. It didn't help that the same 'tosser' had done the same thing just months before and his victims got sod all refunds. Both scams had netted over £450k The whole issue soured the experience and I haven't been back other than look up prices for items I've sold here.

Thought to have a look-see as I have some µ 4/3 items to sort out before going for broke on the Stylus 1.

An A5 size sounds about right for keeping in the camera box when not used... otherwise it gets mislaid during a senior moment.

I'm sure I have one for the EP3 from another source but it's in hiding atm so not too sure of the size but don't think it was A5 or A4? but somewhere in-between?

I do have a tablet which doesn't always do what I want... sometimes it acts dumb - probably something to with the psoriasis, which at the moment is rampant - until I wet my finger which leaves crap everywhere.

Go to http://www.olympus.co.uk and click on cameras -> stylus -> stylus 1
Then click on "shop" (the shopping trolley icon on the right, just under the search bar)
Or go to http://shop.olympus.co.uk

Then on the grey line you will see "OM-D PEN Stylus Manuals"
Click on "Manuals"

You will get to this link:
http://shop.olympus.co.uk/e_commerce/Manuels-man-1.htm (sic)

Now use the drop down to choose your camera and then choose English-International. You are all set to add the item to your basket and checkout.
It is just a printed & bound version of the PDF, cost £13. (US customers can contact the US customer services and get one sent free!).

@ OM User. Thanks for taking the time to put me on the right road. Have just ordered.

How nice to see our cousins across the pond get it for free. Must be something to do with our 'special relationship'.
