No problem John,

I hope that my last post did not come out in an aggressive way! I was just having a bit of fun, and it looks as though Bob's buying!

It would be great if more people voted, but I know not all people come on here for the challenges.

Kind regards

Graydon

Not at all Graydon... it did the job very well of making me feel bad for not voting!! You're doing a great job here Graydon, thanks for taking this on board.

Sterling stuff...

Just a bump for the weekend when, providing you've finished all your jobs, you may have a little time to vote?

Re: Voting - E-System Users 2009 End Of Year Challenge

Okay .... Less than a week to go.

I haven't had a vote for a few days but there is a top ten. Still extremely close though.

Hope this prompts a few more people to have a look and vote while they still can.

Kind regards

Graydon

Re: Voting - E-System Users 2009 End Of Year Challenge

It is noticable that the pictures on the first page of the gallery have had more views than those on the subsequent pages.

Would it be possible for next years comp to rotate the pictures so that everyone gets a crack at being on the first page?

Just a thought.

Hi Len,

I think its something we could consider next year but it also depends upon your view settings. I have mine to display 90 images (max) by fileName ASC, so all but 2 images are on the first page!

Looking at the views using my setting suggest the early images do have more views and this tapers-off as people run out of stamina. I would like to think that this hasn't stopped people viewing the ones they think will be really good; may be they have just been more selective as to which ones they click-on to view? This theory break down if people are looking at my first page last.

Maybe we could recommend 'view settings' next time and warn viewers that there are more than x pages to view.

.... and now from Mark Twain "lies, damn lies and statistics"

I have stats based on 12 items per page and how many people have voted on each page and the number of points given to that page. This is indicative, again, because individuals may have their gallery 'view' set-up differently, but happy to share after the competition is complete. My view, based on the evidence, is that it hasn't really influenced the voting.

Hope this allays your fears.

Kind regards

Graydon

Re: Voting - E-System Users 2009 End Of Year Challenge

I too had noticed the higher number of views on the first page. But then ( at least I thought) I spotted another trend - some of the portrait/wildlife/bird photos seem to have a higher number of views than those around them - possibly because people want to apply the ultimate test "Are the eyes sharp" which doesn't necessarily merit an enlarged view of the landscape/whatever next to it. And I've no doubt other members can spot other trends - or maybe I've just been forced to watch too much CSI, NCIS etc. for my own good.

My point is - Graydon's worked hard enough on this as it is. And if his stats confirm that the votes are not biased towards the early pages then why make more work.

And no, my shots aren't anywhere near the front lol

Re: Voting - E-System Users 2009 End Of Year Challenge

I viewed them a number of times as a slide show. This meant that I cut short the slide show a few times when the kids or the wife needed something, the phone rang or I went to do something else.

I did however view all images on more than one occassion and drew up a short list from all the images prior to voting.

Re: Voting - E-System Users 2009 End Of Year Challenge

Could it be that a greater number of "good 'uns" are on or near the early pages.
Mind you all this is out the window as most people have different ideas of what is good anyway. And then there are "pet" subjects that some may vote on and ignor all other subjects.
My 3 entries are spread out amongs the whole gallery and I have no idea if that is good or bad........It's all a bit of fun anyway and gives us all another chance to see some choice pics.
Keith

p.s.I just hope no-one spoils things by voting for themselves.............

Thanks Keith,

I think people do have their favourite subjects.
It is a great chance to see others' work - I have had great fun.
It is just for fun .... and the wonderfully hand crafted Avatars I have for the winners (Have I mentioned those before?)

Graydon

Oh, and nobody has voted for themselves.

If everyone had voted for themselves, we'd have 31 winners requiring 31 "hand crafted" Avatars!!

Bob,

Noticed you haven't got an Avatar yet?

What you need is one that says you won this competition!

I like to think most folk on here are honest people, and if I thought my images warranted a placing in the top three, then that's the way I'd vote. I'd hope everyone voted that way too.

As it happens, I felt there were many better than mine and none of them warranted a top three, and so didn't vote for myself.

Good luck everyone.

Just when I thought it was all over ... more votes came in this evening.

I'm virtually polishing those virtual medals!
