Re: Challenge 60 - Creative Autumn

Oh golly gosh, it's decision time, do I really have to pick 3 from this wonderful collection of photographs?

Well, I've made my choice and in doing so have been forced to pass over some cracking shots that would grace any calendar. I must emphasise that these are my personal choices and that anoher judge might have reached an entirely diffeent but equally valid conclusion. One thing that I have tried to keep in mind during my deliberations is that the emphasis of the theme is creative autumn photographs. So here goes:-

1st Stoates. Steve has made an excellent job of blurring by vertical movement of the camera during a slow exposure to create this stunning impressionistic abstract. One of the best of this type of picture I've ever seen.

2nd Art Frames. Peter has made a superb composition of autumn berries, sharp where it matters and wonderfully diffused by the limited DOF to help emphasise the main group of these fruits. There is also a beautiful creamy bokeh to the totally defocussed background.

3rd macmcgill. My first reaction was "what's a boat got to do with autumn?" But then I remembered that autumn gales happen at sea, too. In fact, I think this dramatic scene is wonderfully evocative of a rough November day on the North Sea. You can almost hear the wind howling, ripping at your sou'wester as hands numbed by the stinging cold attempt to grip tight in anticipation of yet another crashing blow from the angry sea.

Congratulations to all, now over to you for the next challenge, Steve.

Re: Challenge 60 - Creative Autumn

Congratulations to the winners and to John (Zuiko) for a well chosen subject which gave wide scope for presentation of images. That was a really good turnout.

Very well done Steve a great image that meets the 'creative' aspect of the challenge perfectly.
Well done to the other winners, all who took part and John for pulling it all together.

It was well deserved, Steve, but winning can be a double-edged sword!

Re: Challenge 60 - Creative Autumn

A worthy winner. I wouldn't have liked to make the decision, so well done to John for his judgement.

Re: Challenge 60 - Creative Autumn

There is now a short pause before the next challenge so could I suggest that we use it to define the rules where entries are made using multiple images. I entered a focus stacked image from 15 "frames" and I assumed that as long as I was transparent about it there would either be no problem or at least it would be tactfully ignored. However it would be be a good idea to define how these are handled in future - I can think of at least three cases, HDR focus stacking and montages, where some definition would be a good idea

Re: Challenge 60 - Creative Autumn

In fact the image I submitted was made up of 15 separate images stacked together and being stacked had lost its exif. In a note I offered to submit one or more of those images for exif examination and I assumed that would be OK but I was actually breaking the rules in submitting an exif less image

Re: Challenge 60 - Creative Autumn

I understand your concerns, Roger. My take on this would be that such images are fine, as long as at least one of the original images used in such a "compilation" retains its exif and is able to be made available to a judge in case of a dispute.
