My Elusive Butterfly

A rare shot, this. My daughter will not pose for a photograph and covers her face every time a camera comes close, but today I caught her off guard.

Re: My Elusive Butterfly

Nice shot.

But I think the expression is telling you what she thinks of photographers, parents and adults in general.

The past is a different country, and teenagers are a foreign species.

One to pin in your butterfly book.

Re: My Elusive Butterfly

It may be a sign of insecurity John.

My son aged 50 has the same hang up and gets aggro if I try to snap him.

Re: My Elusive Butterfly

That's a great capture John and I bet secretly she likes it but would never admit it to you. My daughter (and wife's even worse!) had the same attitude to having pictures taken but as she's gradually getting interested in photography a bit herself so she's mellowing. Neither of them would let me post a picture on here though perish the thought.

Re: My Elusive Butterfly

She certainly shows lots of attitude in this shot, but at that stage she hadn't noticed my camera, or at least not quick enough to react (i.e. hands over face). Mark could be right about it being an insecurity thing, teenage years bring a lot of uncertainty and change of who you are, together with enormous peer pressure to conform with the non-conformists! It was a hurried grab shot, but one which I'll always treasure.

Re: My Elusive Butterfly

Quite a few of us have camera shy kids. Thats a class shot for an "off guard " moment. Lovely to have it for the future,

Nice John, I'll take a bit of of attitude in a candid portrait over a cheesey grin any day.

Re: My Elusive Butterfly

Very nice image you captured part of her character in this grab shot, very well executed.
