Re: Olympus XZ-1 compact may be of interest to Pen fans

I like the look of it & it would probably compliment a DSLR outfit more than a PEN (in some respects). The name may not roll off the tongue as easy for us (real) English speaking people, Ex Zed One, but the Americans would probably find it easier as Ex Zee One. Who thought up the model name?

Catchy, isn't it? Logically it should have been called a Pencil.....

"Olympus Ex-Zed" - if you say it fast enough it sounds a bit like "Olympus Exit", whereas the Americans get "Olympusexy"

Actually, hang the real English language for this, I like the sound of that, the Olympusexy One.

I used to own an Olympus XA1, which sounds like "sexy one" in proper English, let alone American.

Re: Olympus XZ-1 compact may be of interest to Pen fans

That looks as if it would be a useful little camera, for me dynamic range will be the key point though, if it's up against the LX-3-LX-5 it'll have to be very good, I've seen the results from the LX as quite a few outdoors bloggers use them and owning a small Panasonic compact myself (FX-150) Panasonic build quality is extremely good although the dynamic range is obviously poor compared to my E-420.

Re: Olympus XZ-1 compact may be of interest to Pen fans

I had a feeling in my water that the XZ-1 was going to be very good and I am delighted to report that Dpreview have tested it and awarded it a Gold medal. the full rview can be found here:

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/OlympusXZ1/

Quoting from the conclusion : "The XZ-1 combines simple direct controls with an excellent lens to create probably the best photographers' compact currently available. The output JPEGs are great and the balance of lens range, brightness and compactness make it a really appealing package, whether as an only camera or as a pocketable backup for DSLR owners."

High praise indeed given they are comparing to the Lumix LX-5, Canon G12 etc. Happy days indeed for Olympus, now where do I buy one?

Cheers

Chris

Re: Olympus XZ-1 compact may be of interest to Pen fans

Just read the review and it's pretty glowing with the exception of the missing AEL/AFL button.
Well done Olympus, sounds a great little camera.

Hello miss Spikkerud;maybe youre not that gifted but you look quite concerned by sexy stuffs...Not really norvegian wood !
The XZ-1 name recalls me rather a Kawasaki Z1,ZZR,ZRX or ZXR,I owned a few of it,but are motorcycles sexy things ?
