I think the clue is in "openly copied versions." The risk in buying (quite apart from a duff copy or a virus) is "openly breaking the law."

I'd think a bigger worry would be how happy are you to give your credit card details to this fly by night scam.

Re: CantAfford.com

Absoluely - there's a huge risk in purchasing from such sites. I for one would never give my credit card details to such a company; I'm more than happy with my legit copies of Lightroom and CS3.

Re: CantAfford.com

And of course there is 'free' software available anyway for non-commercial use. Totally legal, with proper support/development teams and often a large active on-line community to provide help.

So for Microsoft Office I would suggest Open Office, for Photoshop then there is The GIMP. There are freeware/shareware/GNU/commons licensed products for most, if not all, purposes.

No need for a fool to part with their money for a 'bargain'.

Re: CantAfford.com

I agree with you Nick 100%, but there are plenty of people out there that dont realise that free software options exist, especially software that works with "the big-boys" software. Its those people who, through inexperience of using computers, will get pulled into something like that

I totally agree with all of the above.

This site came up during a search and I just thought it was crazy

Well yes, but my interest in this offer was never going to extend that far!

Re: CantAfford.com

I see the versions of Photoshop are 'portable'. Some while ago I downloaded a free portable version of CS2 (IIRC). It was a cut-down version that would run off a USB stick. There was quite a bit missing off it, but it was handy to have in order to do a quick fix on an image on a computer without image processing software installed.

I guess these free portable versions of Photoshop are compact illegally hacked versions of the real thing. I tend to take the view that they are probably good for Adobe, because they give enough flavour of the real thing for people to go out and buy it, without having to go through the rigmarole of installing a legit trial copy.

Re: CantAfford.com

This site is totally illegal and the worst kind of piracy, they are just selling on copies of programs they have downloaded from the net.

Its bad enough to download and use for personal use, but to sell is even worse

18 for office 2003 WTF they have downloaded it from the net and selling a copy, this is not a bargin just plain illegal
