Re: Venice

Excellent series. Nos 3 and 9 are very good. No 5 is excellent, The bronze is rendered perfectly.

For me No 3 would be better with less of the bell tower. Although it's nicely out of focus its height and shape with nothing surrounding it draws the eye away from the foreground subject. Maybe cropping to a square format would improve this.

Regards.

Re: Venice

Kev,
you probably already know but the Campanile in San Marco square is worth the queue for the rooftop shots, and a trip over to San Georgio for a look back at the main island is worth a trip. The Vaporetto/water bus on the Grande Canal is a good way to get about - for which you can buy a day pass.
looking forward to seeing your shots on the forum!

Re: Venice

These are just great shots, I do like the narrow DoF ones particularly. Great stuff!

Re: Venice

Peter, for No 3 I should of got down lower so that the top of the campanile was just above the masks - I agree there is to much tower....thanks for your comments.

Re: Venice

Yes indeed, an excellent set which depict Venice in a very personal way. I particularly like your use of depth of field (out of focus backgrounds). If I had to pick out my favourites they would be the horse and hoof for your creativity and "seeing" skill, the bronze states for the fabulous lighting, and the cluttered canal with the gondolier at the top pushing against the building with his foot !

Well done. Stan

Thanks for that information.
We have never been to venice before, but are staying for two days before we join our cruise ship.

I think I need to get me a good guide book.

Re: Venice

Little wrong with these! The sort of shots that I would attempt. Good to see some different angles on familiar subjects - a thinking photographer. Pity about the rather flat lighting in a few of them though. Otherwise good stuff.

We were there for only 2 days - day 1 was good light, day 2 started dull then rained like we were in the UK!

Re: Venice

You've made excellent use of juxtapositioning and shallow DOF (4/3 sensors cannot do that, you know) in the detail shots, I love them. I also love the almost comical scene of a gondola traffic jam in the last shot. My personal favourite, however, is the first picture - a superb composition of the roof tops. What a great set, you must be pleased.

Re: Venice

Yes really pleased with these, I had five gondola jam shots but chose this one because of the Gondolier pushing off the wall with his foot....I was going to label this as per the monty python sketch...but its before 9 o'clock so didn't.
Shame about the graffiti on the shop shutters at the back....sadly it crops up everywhere in Venice.
