A collection from Rome and Florence (7 Images)

Have been occupied on many diversions recently, so not many postings. However a recent trip to Rome and Florence provided many photo opportunities. Travelling light I only took my relatively new (to me) EPL2 + 14-42mm and I continue to be impressed by its performance.

When visiting places I always like to get up early and try to capture places without crowds of people. An example of this is the Trevi Fountain in Rome; this picture looks quite reasonable:

Until you turn round and realise the noise behind you is the sound of a thousand shutters going off from the massed ranks of other tourists:

However the early bird can catch the Spanish Steps without crowds:

Two hours later I was amazed to find all these flowers had appeared from nowhere. Note also that in Italy even the street cleaners look glamorous!

Florence gave some wonderful lighting effects due to the showery conditions - just like home!
The Duomo from the Campanile:

Santa Croce:

Ponte Vecchio at dawn:

All images shot in Raw and processed in LR4

A lovely set of images, from what looks to have been a lovely trip. All smashing, especially the last one - except from the ugly drainage pipes sticking out from the wall!

Oh.... hang on a minute... they are all Canon SD ROG 'L' ESP HG glass aren't they... all waiting for the lesser spotted water birds

Nice, 5 and 6 are my favourites.

7 I would lose the pipes in the foreground as they are distracting.

Re: A collection from Rome and Florence (7 Images)

Sorry you didn't have much luck with the weather but the Florence photos prove a point: Sometimes you get the best shot when you're at the highest risk of getting no usable shot at all. Isn't it magical when it's overcast and suddenly the sun puts in a brief appearance?

I didn't think it possible to catch the Spanish Steps without a crowd.

Good points about the 'pipes' in the foreground and I will lose them, but they are actually spotlights lighting up the next bridge down!

Great set, the people on the top of the dome really gives you a sense of scale!

Yes - I am really pleased with this 'standard' lens. I also find that LR 3 or 4 really does allow one to get the best out of any image; it's definitely worth the money in my opinion.

Actually I think "the crud" in the foreground makes the picture - gives it a sense of place, if you see what I mean.

Re: A collection from Rome and Florence (7 Images)

The first two of Florence are my favourites due to the fantastic light.

Yes, that Duomo shot is astonishing, should go on the wall in a frame..
